I really wanted to like this, but couldn't be: Bought the 15 Amp and 20 Amp outlets. This is very similar in appearance to the Jasco/GE; but with improved appearance (Subjective): The blue light is inconspicuous when off but bright when on; and like the Jasco units; the LED can be programmed via a controller like Vera. The control button is well positioned; slightly recessed and almost flush. the screw-less wall plate included is very nice; and a standard wall plate is also included.
It is bulky and barely fits in an older metal box; but the same can be said for a GFCI or other controllable outlets. It would've been better if it was slimmer inside but in the end it fits. Will work just fine in newer blue plastic boxes.
It paired without issues to a Vera; which it recognized correctly on the 1st attempt; however ended up returning this because in my opinion it has a fatal design flaw that is also mentioned on the documentation: If there's a loss of power; even for a second or so; the controlled outlet stays off. Didn't have this issue with outlets from Aeotec or Jasco. I think this issue might be acceptable on some switches that would normally be off; but for an outlet it can be a problem; it needs to maintain state. If it wasn't for this critical flaw; it would've been a good value.

This is a basic ON/OFF receptacle switch with Z-Wave capability. I use it within HomeSeer (HS3) software along with Aeon Lab's 2nd Generation Z-Sick controller. The receptacle is responsive, and was very easy to get running with the software. Using this configuration, I cannot do any of the advanced programming including changing when the LED comes on and how the module responds to ALL ON/ALL OFF commands. Some other more advanced, more expensive Z-Wave controllers, such as the Mi Casa Verde VeraLite Home Controller or HomeSeer HomeTroller Zee may have this functionality.

However, If you do use this type of software, please note that any of these devices is really "scene capable." The software knows when it has been switched on/off, and it usually has a set polling interval, so you know it's current status. You don't know whether the device plugged in is on, but you do know the receptacle is powered on, for example. Knowing these kinds of things can allow you to create lighting scenes with other controlled devices. A nice feature to add in the future might be to track energy consumption, but no Z-wave receptacles do this to date. Wire in an [[B008VWAPU4 Aeon Labs Z-Wave Micro Smart Energy Switch]] behind an existing receptacle to obtain this functionality.

Here are a couple of additional comments:

1. I didn't find the screw terminals to be very durable.

Perfect for my needs of controlling a space heater in my greenhouse. It can handle high current loads, but you still need to use common sense when powering high current devices like a space heater. BTW, if you can wire a regular wall outlet, you can wire this. It is exactly the same. If you don't know what you are doing, call a qualified electrician. Also I had no problems linking this to my HomeSeer system with an Aeon Z-wave USB module. As it states, only one of the outlets is z-wave controlled. The other outlet is always on.

I would definitely buy another of these if I had a need for a high current z-wave controlled outlet.

Worked out of the box as described. Using it on a circuit to shut down a coffee pot that otherwise keeps water warm 24/7. Hope to cut down on unnecessary energy use. This one paired perfectly with a Honeywell Tuxedo Touch panel. Glad to now that 20-Amp outlets are available for Z-Wave since that is how my house is wired.

I have purchased and installed several of these z-wave outlets around my house. I picked this specific unit mainly because it did not have pig tails but rather screw clamps which makes it easier to install in cramped boxes especially if the receptacle is not at the end of the line (double the wires). The attractive looks, tamper proof feature, blue status led and recessed button were all a plus.

An issue I do not recall having with previous revisions of this product was that the screw clamp would not fully close so the 12 AWG wire was a bit loose. A loose wire at a receptacle makes me feel very uneasy especially if it will have significant load so this, in my opinion, is a bad defect. In my case the outlet will be exclusively used to control low power LED lights so although I am not happy about it, I do not think it will burn my house down (poor contact might result in heat being generated due to higher resistance). To be clear, I would compare the contact you get to be equivalent to the "push-in" contact available on most outlets/switches/etc... which I avoid at all costs even though totally legal (why???).

I also noticed, but did not test, that there are two holes of different sizes for each clamp. I believe my 12 AWG wires fit in the smaller hole yet it did not seem to tighten properly. I wonder whether it will be possible to tighten 2 wires securely when this outlet has to be installed mid line (wires in and out to other receptacles). My concern stems for the fact I was unable to secure a single 12 AWG wire in the smaller hole therefore I assume the problem might be worse once I add a second wire in the larger hole (the hole size did not seem to be the only difference as the clamp seemed to be slanted leaving more space for a larger wire).
