Ended up returning these, disappointed. I LOVED the old Lavers, having gone through four pairs over the years (Blue, Green, Blue again, and Black). I was very much looking forward to rocking the updated 2015 model in Black.
The Good: They look just as nice in person as they do in the Amazon pics. The black on black is so slick looking.
The Bad: They run a half size large (all my previous Lavers fit me perfectly in 8.5, but I would definitely need to go down to an 8 in order to get these to fit me). Also, as many many people have mentioned in other reviews, these are much heavier, which is a problem if you are buying them for anything other than bumming around the city, like say, PLAYING TENNIS, which is something someone buying a shoe named after ROD LAVER might occasionally want to do.
Short version: These are about a half size large, and they are heavy as heck. Excellent choice if you're just looking for style, though.

Update: I went ahead and put them on my kitchen scale out of curiosity. See the pictures. The 2015 version has gained a whopping 146 grams (or 5.2 oz)! Each shoe weighs over a pound! It's really bizarre that they'd change the iconic Laver so radically like this.

As others have commented, these shoes are NOT like the originals. Specifically, they weigh a ton! The rubber sole material is hard, dense and heavy. As soon as you pick up a shoe, you'll feel its mass. Pity as these are cool looking shoes but not at all like I remember. Adidas have switched to a heavy rubber for some reason as opposed to the original, light poly sole. Beware.

Nice shoe as I have used these shoes for our boys and myself for the last 30 years or so. Hard to find at times but nice when found. I read reviews before I bought this pair, I had 3 pairs prior and wore them out, and I was sorry that some reviews were correct about the sole and weight and the toe box area. If you were to compare the old shoes I have with the new ones the toe box is much flatter which I think enhances the looks. The new show a uplifted and not so neat toe box. Regardless, I like the shoe and will enjoy them.

These are not the Rod Lavers you used to know and love but rather some bastardized version made with inferior materials. They are heavy, inflexible, and terribly uncomfortable. They even look just a little bit different... like the whole uncanny valley thing with robots/CGI; it's close, but something is different and it is creeping me out.

I use them when doing yard work now because I paid for them and you have to them for something.

Adidas Originals Men's Rod Laver Tennis Shoe: I love these shoes! I'm a tennis teaching professional as well as a player. The shoes are great for playing, I get compliments all the time on these shoes. Great find and great buy. I need a few more in other colors. I will buy more if they receive additional colors. Fast delivery. Great service, thanks Amazon!

OK, so I'll admit that I bought these shoes because they were mentioned in the footbag forums. I had hoped to improve my play (which I haven't, but that's really my failure to practice and not the shoes). It did take some time to break in the shoes. I got blisters from them on my heels at first, so I had to get used to them slowly. Now they are very comfortable and I can walk quite a ways in them. I've walked at least 4 miles at a stretch in them, and they seem just fine. It's true that you probably won't win the Boston Marathon in them, as they are kind of heavy, but they're great for just kicking around the city. One thing that I actually quite appreciated is that they are very slim on both cushioning and arch support, which seem to be implicated in several studies as (possibly) causing injury rather than preventing it. These aren't minimalist running shoes, as they have a pretty thick sole, but they would get your feet a lot stronger if you walk in them long enough.

An updated version of a 70's classic. I've been wearing Lavers on and off since the early 90s when I took up footbag (not seriously, just for fun) and these were one of the standard shoes because they were lightweight and you could modify them to accomplish tricks a bit easier. I ended up liking the shoes so much I wore them casually over the years and have become my favorite shoe of all time.

They've been in production on and off ever since the 70s with very minor updates to the design. In 2014 after a few years of not being manufactured, Adidas decided to update a few things. I understand all of the complaints they are getting about the "improvements", but for casual wear I think they are in fact improved. The main differences I noticed are they're quite a bit heavier (almost too heavy- 1.25 lb each!) than the original design, and the sole is a bit more rigid and firm. The toe seems a little bit different but I don't have an old pair to compare. I feel bad for the foot baggers and dancers who used the original Laver religiously but for those of us who want comfort I think Adidas hit it out of the park.

I hope Adidas continues to keep this in production because I'll continue to purchase a pair each year. I especially love the new gray color and it's become my favorite, surpassing the white. I've always loved the white ones but damn, they're blinding to the eyes when in the sun, they always looked better when they got beat up and a tiny bit dirty.
