These soaps work really hard, but they don't strip your hands dry like other soaps can. To illustrate: my husband's a doctor, so we're really conscientious about washing our hands after every little thing; some soaps can take a toll on your skin pretty quickly with frequent use. Add to that the fact that I wasn't prepared for how dry the winters get around here (having just moved from Memphis), so my hands got painfully chapped and cracked until I switched to Method soaps. They didn't strip my hands, but they also weren't impossible to rinse off like some "moisturizing" soaps. They leave the natural oils in my skin, so my hands actually have a fighting chance!

I've been a big fan of Method products for a while now, but also worth mentioning is that my mother-in-law was wowed by them when she recently visited. She's no stranger to high-ticket products, so when she started gushing about the soap in my bathroom and asking where in the world I found it, I knew Method had cracked the code. This stuff is easily the best you'll find at the local supermarket, and it could probably hold its own against some of the boutique products out there.

One (semi-) downside: I can't get the refills locally. That's ok, though, since it gives me a chance to try all of the great scents they have!

Scent Name: Pink GrapefruitSize: 12 Ounce (Pack of 6)
"Method" is a San Francisco-based company specializing in "environmentally friendly" cleaning products, both for the home and for personal use. There's no animal testing, and, with the exception of their tallow-containg dryer sheets, no animal products are used.

Pink grapefruit hand soap is an effective and gentle product that cleans well with no sudsing action. It has a very noticeable grapefruit smell, it will seem fresh and energizing to some, but will (naturally) repulse those who don't like the scent of grapefruit. While there are no articifial scents, and the grapefruit scent is not harsh or overpowering, it is definitely not fragrance-free.

The soap contains "naturally-derived, biodegradable ingredients and contain vitamin E and aloe." However, their website (methodhome.com) informs us also that "for intellectual property reasons we do not give out the specific names of the chemicals we use." For various reasons, this is not an antibacterial soap (for example, method believe that antibacterial soap is not necessary given 20 seconds of washing with an non-antibacterial soap, that overuse of such ingredients might lead to increased bacteria resistance, and that these agents biodegrade more slowly than others--see website for more information). Bottom line: If grapefruit is OK with you, this is an excellent product that gets the job done with little or no environmental impact.

Method is a company that wants to make effective cleaners that are good for you and the environment, all in attractive packaging and with pleasant scents. I actually first found out about them from a college marketing class. It's not all hype. They use biodegradable, natural ingredients, recycled post-consumer plastics, and they do what they can to minimize and offset their carbon footprint. They're all about eliminating toxins from people's homes and being green while they're at it. They want their products to look cool, too.

So now you're asking yourself, does it work or is it just hippie nonsense? This stuff absolutely works fine. This hand wash lathers well to clean effectively, and doesn't leave any weird residue on your hands. I like the Sea Minerals kind because it's a nice manly blue and doesn't smell much at all. Even without all the environmentally friendly stuff, I'd use this soap for that reason alone. I actually hate fragrant soap, so if you're like me, get Sea Minerals. It has a slight, fresh odor that quickly dissipates and you won't be able to smell it on your hands for hours. If you can smell it at all after rinsing, you don't have to worry about it being flowery or fruity or any of that nonsense.

If you do like scented soap, they have a wide variety of colors to choose from, each with a different scent. It took me some trial-and-error to find Sea Minerals so I can definitely tell you they have a lot to choose from and I'm sure there's one or several you'll like.

You'll probably save money buying refill pouches rather than constantly buying new teardrop bottles.

The fragrance is so fresh. The soap works very well. The bottle looks great. I just wish there were large size refill bottles, like there are for Dial and others.

I came back here to revise a previous positive review I had left after purchasing this product. While method may have some environmentally friendly factors their products score very poorly (F) on the EWG's Guide to Healthy Cleaning. In fact, out of 35 method products evaluated, 18 scored a D or lower due to the toxic chemicals they have chosen to use or lack of transparency on their label. Because this industry is almost entirely unregulated, companies can say anything they want on the label and even hide most of the known toxicity in the "fragrance" ingredient. (look up 'greenwashing') The United States has a current ban on only 11 toxic chemicals. The European Union has banned over 1,000 - some of which are found in method products. When you know better you have the choice to do better. method, you know better.
