Just tried this today for the first time. Bought it as a last resort before regrouting our shower. VERY impressed! The gel is thick and stays on the wall while it cleans the grout to a bright white. I let it sit for 10 - 15 minutes and on another spot about 1 hour, only because I forgot to go back to it in a timely manner. A few really bad places needed a 2nd application, but it took a very thin 2nd coating and didn't need to stay on long at all. No scrubbing necessary, even though the pen has a built in scrubber. The only thing I would do differently next time is shake the product before using it. The beginning of the tube was really thick and it started getting a little runnier towards the end. Like I said, this was a last resort before regrouting, so this has been a lifesaver for us. Definitely plan on using it again and recommending it to others!

The Tilex Tile and Grout Cleaner Pen has proven remarkably effective for me. Discolored tub and shower grout and caulk that were barely affected by anti-mildew sprays turn clean white with this product. The bath and shower enclosure in my residence hasn't looked so good in probably ten years. Another benefit: since it's applied directly to the affected surface as a gel, less fumes get in the air than with a spray.

Here are some tips to help a good product work its best.

(1) Scrub the grout and caulk the day before with a grout-cleaning brush.
(2) Apply the product when the grout and caulk are dry.
(3) Before applying, shake the Tilex pen well--if a clear liquid comes out, it hasn't been shaken enough. The clear liquid doesn't do much of anything--it's the whitish gel that works.
(4) Don't be in a hurry to rinse off the Tilex. I usually give it at least an hour or two to penetrate.
(5) Deeply discolored areas may need another application.
(6) Last, if you live in a hard water area, mineral deposits can coat the surfaces and block the effectiveness of a product like Tilex. To prevent this, I wipe down the tile with a microfiber cloth after every shower. If the deposits are bad, Lime-Away may help dissolve them. But be careful to rinse it off completely before applying Tilex--mixing household chemicals can be hazardous.

WOW! We've been in our house for many years, the bathroom was 20+ years old when we got here and some of the grout is horribly stained. The hope was to remodel but as with all homeowners, many more important and urgent projects have come up over the years, requiring us to make do and try to make it the best we can. I have wasted probably hundreds of dollars over the years trying to clean our grout. I really just want it good enough so I can re-grout without grouting over yucky grout. It never gets good enough to re-grout and I have firmly believed it is not permanent stains and it can be cleaned. I started looking for re-grouting products on amazon out of desperation/giving up and saw this and it is one of a handful of products I THOUGHT WERE TOO STUPID TO TRY. BUT for less than $3? SIGH...I might as well try it.

OMG as they say, IT WORKED! I coated it on the 2 worst spots (14 inches, and 7 inches), where the tub meets the tile and across the top of the 1970's built in wall soap dish. It gave me the brief illusion of being white which brought me joy, even though it was just because the gel was white :) and left it there for about 28 hours, it dried a crusty white like you over-caulked something. I used the cheap grout brush that was listed near it on amazon and it came off like powder - still looking white, yay, and then I rinsed it and it was still white. It was truly a miracle in my mind.

The only downer is that it doesn't have a lot of gel in the tube - but then I am glopping it on and leaving it there rather than spreading it around, because it worked that way the first time. Luckily not all of my grout has the problems like the 2 horrible stains I treated the first time so I won't need 30 tubes.

We have white grout in our tile shower, and the first few times I used this, I loved it. It was my product of choice and worked wonders, and I used it a few times a year to make our shower look new. But over time (even though I rinsed thoroughly after use), it made our grout fragile and crumbly, making it more prone to look gross, and it needed to be cleaned more and more frequently. We will now need to replace all the grout completely and start new. I will not be using this product in our new shower.

this worked wonders on our shower grout! it looks like brand new. the clorox bleach pen didn't make a dent in the color of the grout but this after allowing it to sit for about 30 minutes saved us a call to the expensive grout cleaning companies. it's a bit hard to find. i hope it is not being discontinued. i am glad that it is available here!

Ultimately what I ask of a product is to do what I intended for it to do when I bought it, for a reasonable price, and work for a reasonable length of time, or for a reasonable volume in a consumable type product. So first, the volume is what the volume is - 2 Ounces. That's not a lot - so I expected that it would have good coverage (i.e. could be applied thinly) so as to provide maximum coerage. I used this to attempt to clean white grout lines in my mother's shower. The grout lines aren't white anymore, but discolored to a tannish color. I tried several different things with it. First, I cleaned the entire shower floor with a spray bathroom cleaner and a degreaser, so to "prep" the grout for this grout cleaner. Rinsed thoroughly, and proceeded to apply as per the directions. Note: the directions do not specify as to if the grout should be dry or wet, so I made the assumption that component was not essential to the product's ultimate usefulness. I took photos before and after for comparison. The lower left side of the shower floor I put it down in every grout line. (can you say t-e-d-i-o-u-s, but I bought it, so onward) On the lower right side, I used the grout pen and grout lines to write out my initials. (boredom) Neither produced any sort of increase in whiteness, reduction in stainage. I allowed it to sit for about 30 minutes. I removed with a scrub brush AND a power scrubber tool - like a heavy duty electronic toothbrush. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Maybe I will try it again in another shower and see if I can see a difference. But I won't bet the farm on it. I think my next attempt will be a steamer, and if that doesn't work - paying a professional. I've run out of DIY grout-cleaning options.
