I had very bad experiences with the previous generation of Energizer 2500mAh rechargeable NiMH batteries, circa 2005. They suffer from rapid self-discharge problem (that is, can't hold a charge for more than a few days even while not in use), and have very limited lifespan (capacity deteriorated badly after just a few dozen cycles). Energizer's initial response was to change the existing series' capacity rating to '2450mAh', as if mere name change is going to solve anything. Around mid-2010, Energizer finally started to introduce a new series to address this problem. The series is named 'Recharge' and it claims to "Hold charge up to one year".

The Energizer Rechargeable AA Batteries featured on this page is the new 'Recharge' series, with a rated capacity of 2300mAh for AA cells. I have tested a set of those new batteries, using my La Crosse BC1000 charger/analyzer. Here are my findings:

- Right out of the package, the average remaining capacity is 1684mAh, or 73% of the rate capacity.
- After the first Charge/Discharge cycle, the average capacity jumped to 2314mAh
- After three more Charge/Discharge cycles, the capacity improved slightly to 2362mAh
- After storing the batteries for 3.5 months (108 days), the remaining charge is 88% of original capacity.Read more ›

These make my life a tiny bit easier, and I am glad that I bought a charger and both these AAA and their AA batteries. We charge up Wii remotes and TV remotes and the like without issues for the most part. It does seem that they need to be recharged now a bit too often for my taste, but even that is not much hassle. I just pop others back into the device and put the used ones in the charger and 6-8 hours later, they are good to go. We have had some of the sets for years, so I don't think that is a huge surprise.

All in all, I like these batteries and will continue to save money by buying these and recharging them as needed. My advice would be to have some extras on hand as we do so you are not at the mercy of a charging cycle to get back to doing what you were doing.

There is nothing whatsoever wrong with the Energizer rechargeable batteries. I've used them hundreds of times on my bike light. They work perfectly. There is a big misunderstanding about using the chargers. You must place the batteries SIDE BY SIDE and use one of the two ends on the 4 battery chargers. Also, you CANNOT charge a single battery in the 4 battery chargers, only in sets of twos. Also note, these batteries have a charging power of 850mAh. You can find Energizer batteries with a strength as high as 900mAh but the difference is so slight you will not know the difference. I recharge batteries each time I return from taking my bike out for a long ride to make sure they are at full strength and have not had a single issue with Energizer batteries. A few years ago, the Energizer customer service did not even know about how to PROPERLY use the rechargers after I initially thought the device was not working properly, similar to the other reviewer, until I figured out how to use it.

These batteries were cheap, and have great lasting life. I've read that they last less than other brands or that they will be consumed fast with newer demanding electronic devices. However I have 6 of these and have no complaints, using them with led flashlights, wii remotes, also with a point and shoot camera. I replaced my old duracell with these and for what I can tell they last longer compared to when the duracell were new.

Love rechargeables. I don't like alkaline batteries because they seem to always run out of juice before I do. I know the rechargeables don't hold the power as long, but with several on hand, I just change them out, recharge the old ones and keep on truckin'.
