This product is exactly as described. I love that it gives my cats something to think about and the chance to use some skill to capture their food instead of mindlessly eating from a bowl. The fish tails are soft silicone, so it is possible for cats to chew off pieces. However, I spoke with my veterinarian before purchasing this product and she told me that if the cats swallowed some pieces, they would most likely pass right through without causing any problems whatsoever. My cats don't have any interest in chewing on the tails. If you have a cat that's a big chewer, you should consider the risks for yourself. No one can guarantee that your cat won't find a way to get into trouble with this product, but for my cats the benefits (mental stimulation, eating more slowly) far outweigh the risks.

The cat tails were a bit tricky to get into the holes, but it is a lot easier if you use a small, blunt, stick-like object to poke them into the holes. I used a spare chopstick and it worked great! The handle of a spoon would work well, too.

The toy is well made, however, the description is deceiving. The way I read the description was that the fish tails rotate. This lead me to believe that the toy was electronic and the tails actually rotated on the platform. My cats are very good at puzzles and I assumed the rotating tails would be a challenge. The fish tails rotate only if you use your hand to place them at a different angle. Because the toy is fixed in place until a person physically moves the tails, the toy is not a challenge at all. If the description was clearer, I never would have ordered the toy. With all that being said, the toy is very well made and would be a good intro toy for a cat who has never used puzzles. My cats play with dog puzzles, so this toy was extremely basic and nothing new and exciting for them.

I really wanted this toy to help slow down my voracious eaters by making them work a little bit for their food. Unfortunately, it is an unsafe toy that I will be sending back. One of my cats enjoys chewing on the rubbery tales of the fish and he has bitten several large pieces off. It's a good idea but not worth a trip to the vet for a bowel obstruction.

No need to chew, just swallow it fast so no one else can get any.

Now he has to take his time, dig out one piece at a time, which allows for more digestion time and keeps his mind occupied too!
