The idea of using a wand rather than a clip curling iron seemed strange to me. However, the clip type always left a weird ridge in my hair, so I was willing to try the Conair Silicone curling wand to see how it worked.

I started with the lowest setting and found that, as the instructions suggested, I needed a higher heat. I went to the second highest and that worked best for my hair. I have long hair that is medium weight and is wavy.

Using the three fingered "glove" to protect my off hand, I wound my hair around the rod with the hair nearest my head on the thickest part of the wand. I was able to get all of my hair on it and my hair is almost waist length. I just used a smaller amount at a time, so that I could use the length of the rod for the length of my hair.

Using this method, I was able to get a lovely wave in my hair that became a tighter curl as it reached the ends. I ended up with a full head of curls. It took time as my hair is so long and there is so much of it, but it wasn't too difficult. For my use, I won't be doing this every day as it takes me so long. I will use it when I am going out and want extra curly hair.

The wand does get very hot, so you need to be careful both of your scalp and your fingers. The glove works well but it is a one size fits all and was a little large in spots on my fingers.

The silicone did a good job of gripping my hair as I wrapped it around. I had no problems with my hair falling off the wand as I have had in the past with metal curling irons. I am very pleased with the wand and recommend it to anyone who wants a nice wavy curl. I could not get tight curls in my hair from this, so that might be better left to an iron that is skinny in diameter.

I would not buy this again. I would have returned this item but I kept forgetting about it and ran out of time. This curling iron takes too long to make a curl and when you try to get your hair off the shaft your hair gets stuck to the velvet completely messing up the curl. I had a curling iron that did not have the velvet and that one worked so much better. I am very disappointed with this product.

I have fine, straight hair, and lots of it! However, now that I have a loose perm for the first time years, I thought I would like to try some curls in my "shortish" hair (a little longer than chin length). What a frustrating attempt! I simply could not get my hair to hold a curl! I worked up to the highest temperature setting, held my hair on the wand for longer periods of time, and all to no avail. All I got was a limp wave. When I tried a conventional curling iron with a clamp, I was able to get curl--so I think perhaps this wand is just not getting hot enough! I wanted to avoid the crimp I often get with a standard curling iron with a clamp, and I also wanted the advantages of the tapered barrel. Guess I will have to be satisfied with my old curling iron for now!

I have used clamp-less curling wands in the past but since using the hot tools 1-1/2 inch curling iron for my medium to long fine hair everyday, I was not inspired to go back to the clamp-less after trying this wand. First off, the wand is just too thin (and it is not all one size (goes from a 1/2 inch to 1 inch). I could only grab a small amount of hair at a time to curl which took forever with this thing!! If I tried to curl too much hair at one time, the hair either would not stay wrapped around the wand or the hair would not have a decent curl in it. Secondly, I thought the idea of the little tri-finger glove was cool until I tried to use it. Unfortunately because I had this glove on (and unless it's a perfect fit), I couldn't fully grab or control the hair that I was trying to curl. I couldn't tell if I was holding it or not because I had no way to feel what was in my hands. Thirdly, This is a major 2 arm curling job which means that my arms were constantly raised up and started to get very tired, especially because I had to hold the hair and curl at the same time and because it takes so dang long to get through curling all of the hair on my head in small sections! I like that with a curling iron that has a clamp, you can place the hair in it and then turn it and loosen it with one hand getting a perfectly even and controlled curl. I could not curl my ends with this wand! I was disappointed in this Silicone Shine Curling Wand and how long it took me to curl my hair as well as the inconsistent, volume-less curls that I had as an end result. This might work great for some people (or if you had someone to use it on you) but I was not sold or impressed. I don't know why I'd use a curling wand that takes almost 3 times as long to curl my hair with poorer results compared to other curling irons with clamps. I will just have to throw this in the drawer. Bummer.

I love this Conair curling wand. My hair is not real long, so I am using it as a regular curling iron. It is gentle on the hair because of the barrel being flocked. When you wrap your hair around the wand, you count to about 15 and let the hair unwind gently, let the hair cool and then use your fingertips to shake out or use a large pick to go thru the hair and spray with your favorite hairspray. You set the heat on one of 4 settings. It doesn't burn my fingers. My daughter-in-law has long hair and she wraps her hair around the barrel for long spiral curls. It takes so little time to do your hair whether it is long or short. I wouldn't be without this product, so I even bought a second wand as a back-up should anything happen to my first one.
