Used to be my favorite green powder. Now I avoid it. I recently learned from Dr. Michael Greger from Nutritionfacts that Spirulina is a contaminated product. It contains a toxin called BMAA, which is highly associated with ALS (Lou Gerigh's Disease). I contacted Amazing Grass to know if their spirulina was BMAA-free, and they were not helpful at all. They claimed that it was tested for contaminants and BMAA but they did not say it was BMAA-free. So I asked them what the results of the tests are, and whether it still has BMAA in it or not, and they have never replied to me. I recommend you avoid this product until we know for sure that it is free of this devastating neurotoxin.

I love this stuff! It is a very clean and pure product and it's an excellent way to up your daily intake of nutrients and antioxidants. I drink a smoothie every morning after my yoga practice and I purchased this to replace fresh greens in my smoothie. I hate adding spinach and kale to smoothies because every time I add a sufficient amount, I am always able to taste it in the smoothie, no matter how hard I try to cover it up with other things. This product is completely undetectable in my smoothies, which is just what I was looking for. I can save my fresh greens for salads now instead of putting them in my smoothie and having to choke it down with my nose plugged. I used to hate drinking smoothies but now I look forward to my smoothie every day!
I haven't tried mixing this product with water and drinking it down, and I have no desire to. It doesn't taste very good by itself, which is to be expected. If you are going to drink it that way, mixing it with juice instead of water would probably make it more palatable, and be sure to keep stirring it because the particles will not completely dissolve in liquid. If I absolutely had to drink it that way I would, but it is just much more enjoyable for me to sneak it in my breakfast smoothie.
My only complaint about this product is that I definitely do not get 30 servings out of it, and I only fill the scoop about 3/4 of the way. The container comes less than 3/4 full. This is a bit annoying considering the price.
Don't forget to refrigerate the product for maximum freshness and benefits.
If you want to do something good for your body, then this product is for you. It is a little on the expensive side, but you can't put a price on health.Read more ›
