This is 30mm wide (30/50/70mm long) mini-PCIe adapter that runs the mSATA data/power and USB data/power directly to the pin-outs. In other words, it does SATA to mini-PCIe adapters that are "mSATA" and USB to the mini-PCIe adapters that are "USB." It does not convert the single though. I.e., you'll still need a SATA to USB "dock" if you want USB and the device doesn't do USB, only SATA.

The SATA connection worked flawlessly with a 240GB Crucial m500 MLC NAND mSATA drive. I could use it directly as well as in an USB 3.0 to SATA dock. I got full SATA-3/6Gbps speed, 300-500MiBps reads, connected direct, and saw as high as 110MiBps reads out of the USB 3.0 dock (the XHCI port of USB 3.0 is the bottleneck).

SIDE NOTE: If you are planning to use this inside a notebook, take care to note that it will result in a 9.5mm high 2.5" drive. It will not fit in 7mm high, unless you take off the plastic housing. Doing the last will require some more creative mounting.

Like the title says, there are no special instructions for using the adapter. Just plug your mSATA SSD into the socket there and plug your other cables in as you normally would. If you're using it in a laptop, I can't help you since I used it as a desktop adapter while transferring from an old build to a new. It does not limit you to SATA II since there is no logic or controller chip on the adapter that would determine that. It's simply a pass-through physical adapter. Plug and Play! For the price and the amount of time I used it, no complaints whatsoever. =D

This works just fine for mini PCI-E form factor SSDs. And despite the description saying "Not compatible with 50 mm Mini PCI-e SATA SSD's", that is in fact the only type of drive it IS compatible with. And this must just be a typo on the listing, because Syba themselves list this as being compatible.

I did not use this to install an mSATA drive in a normal 2.5" slot, so I can't comment on the screw hole placement issue.

I bought one of these a year or more ago. I used it frequently as part of my IT business.
Recently, I bought a 2nd one (same model as the first) as I thought I could use two to do cloning of mSATA's, etc.

When I tried to use the new one, I noticed that my mSATA cards would not lock down into the clip. After a few of my cards not locking into the clip, I looked closer and discovered that Syba has changed the locking clip. The new one has risers next to the two posts that normally fit into the two holes in the mSATA card. The metal risers actually interfere (touch) with the memory chips ON the mSATA card. I can't be the first to have this problem, so I wonder why Syba continues to use this locking clip? As densities of mSATA cards increase (more chip parts on the card), this will be an increasingly frustrating problem. As it is, I have to be careful not to push down too hard or the risers CUT into the chips. BAD DESIGN, Syba.

I needed this to adapt a Samsung 850 EVO m(ini)SATA SSD to my SATA to USB converter. Mechanically, this adapter accepts the 50 mm mSATA card perfectly. The mSATA connector pops up to receive the card. Then gently pushing the card down locks it securely into place. Electrically, the adapter allowed the mSATA SSD to be 'seen' by my cloning apps. When the cloning operation was completed, gently pulling the locking mechanism back releases the mSATA SSD and it pops up to allow easy removal. I'm quite satisfied with this adapter. The images show the mSATA SSD in the locked and unlocked position.

Bought to accompany my Crucial M500 120GB mSATA SSD. The form factor seems slightly slimmer than an actual 2.5" SATA drive, but that didn't cause any mounting/installation problems. It fits, and I had no device recognition issues.

I haven't tried the USB port, and don't intend to. Naturally, I have no idea whether or not that feature works. As an mSATA SSD to 2.5" drive adapter, it does it's job. I don't know what else to expect from it. No sexy packaging. I suppose it could benefit from a cover plate.

256GB mushin atlas msata works well. Plug and play on windows 7 (remember to activate your brand new mSATA drive through Windows 7 Computer Management tool and create new simple volume). This Syba adapter has a couple LEDs on it to indicate power and activity, which are comforting.

Not all mSATA SSD's work with this adapter. I bought this with the intention of replacing my spinner in my laptop. Upon inserting my mSATA SSD I found that the flash on the under-side of the SSD were interfering with the metal alignment guides of the adapter. Unfortunately, I forced the SSD down and crunch went my SSD. Now my mSATA SSD no longer works. I failed to realize that the adapter was not designed to clear all SSD's. The product's website is clear on what SSD's work with this adapter and what doesn't.
