(See Photos) I find a trend amongst the good deals on Amazon. It's a standard policy for me to filter the results by highest rating, then skim through the comments to help me decide whether that inevitable "bit of extra work" is worth my time because if its a good bargain, and 4+ star rated, then it is typically a step behind a great product.
That extra step in this case is the sharp edges around the base housing where it makes contact with the plastic tray of your beloved Jeep. In the comments, I discovered that the housing tends to scratch the dash. I assumed this was due to the plastic molds in the factory which create a perfect 90 degree corners, which results in very sharp edges.
The solution: just file the inside edges to round/bevel the sharpness away. I used a deburring tool but you can use just about anything to grind the very soft plastic. See photos.

I like the product and it works great, but ... beware when you install it. The mounting system will gouge your dash when you snap it in place. You can see the cuts in the edge of the tray beside the mount in the attached picture. If you put a cloth or something in between you will probably be OK. I would have given more stars if it hadn't damaged my dash.

I use this to replace a window phone holder. It was easy to install and appears to be made of very good quality plastic. My only negative feeling is that it is to low. When your phone is on the clip, it makes it hard to get to things in the tray. Yet despite this I am very pleased with this product.

Pretty good set up because it looks like part of the dash. I personally don't like those vent clip phone holders or the ones in the cigarette lighter so this is what I was looking for. Holds my phone really well although I haven't been on trails yet. I've only had the JKU for 3 weeks now and I use this phone holder a lot. I was skeptical about buying it because people say it scratches the dash but start screwing in the holder and when it gets close to being fully screwed in press it down and it'll snap into place without scratching. I made the mistake of trying to get the back to snap first. and some said it doesn't hold the phone well but it does. Check out the pics.
