Why did you drop the write and read speed from you package? I'll tell everyone why! My previous SSD which I bought half an year ago performs as advertised with speed very close to what was stated on the package (550/500). Now on the same desktop computer this drive can barely reach (380/130) whuch is a huge step down in terms of performance. A bet that Silicon Power changed the controller inside with a cheaper version so they can increase their profit. Why would they remove the pretty competitive speed in terms of a price/performance?

ATTENTION ALL: Do not waste your time and money on this unreliable drive! As a laptop refurbisher, we purchased about 100 of these drives over the period of 2 months installing them in various system builds. We were purchasing Crucial SSDs prior to this but the price difference was enticing. It is not worth it. Over the period of 4 months, we have had a return rate of 40%! These drives fail within 1-3 months - if not right on delivery! I RARELY write product reviews, however after the 40th or so drive failure, I thought it would be good to warn potential buyers. Pay the extra little bit and go for a Crucial or Samsung SSD. Our SSD failure rate with Crucial was lass than 1%.

Warning, possible bait and switch on this product. I bought first one a few months ago and got a solid 379MBs on the read and about 160MBs on the write. Please with the performance and price point, I ordered another one. Unfortunately, the new one is much slower and only comes in at about 225MBs. On the packaging they have removed all traces of the 550MBs read and 500MBs write. The have pulled a Kingston and have done a bait and switch.

Needed a cheap SSD to breathe some life into a 7 year old laptop. This fit the bill perfectly, the computer is now running like a brand new machine! The laptop only supports SATAI so I cannot speak to the speed of this drive past that.

Update 1 week later. The drive has started causing any computer I put it in to (tried it in 4) hard lockup after about 30 minutes and requires a restart, then there is a 50/50 chance that the drive will even be detected. It's being returned, and a quality drive will replace it.

Replaced 120GB Kingston SSD with the Silicon Power drive. Sequential read/write using Crystal Disk is 493/314 MB/s for the Silicon Power and 262/147 MB/s for the Kingston, both on same computer using SATA3 with AHCI. Windows boot noticably faster with Silicon Power. Transfer of operating system to Silicon power went smoothly using the "Migrate OS to SSD or HDD" wizard of AOMEI free version of Partition Assistant. Very pleased with drive performance and price, $99.99.

I ordered this SSD for the consistently low prices and intense read/write speeds. I ordered based off of the previous reviews on amazon but couple clicks here and there revealed that the Silicon Power was switching from Sandforce NAND to Phison x8 nand under the same product without telling anyone. This shady move had my gut feeling pretty bad, then i read the more intensive anandisk reviews and they all rated this poorly.

But after receiving the product albeit late, the performance difference from my Laptops (Y410P) Sea-gate HDD (5400rpm) is day and night. Clean windows was put on the ssd from Microsoft through their windows tool, and my oem licence (UEFI) transferred no problem, i then connected my old HDD using a caddy where the DVD drive used to be copied my files, wiped it clean and am running a nice non bloatware infested edition of windows. With 1 terabyte of HDD in the DVD slot and 240GB of SSD on the mobo.

BenchMarking in ATTO vs the 850 is shown its slow to catch up but that's expected in a much cheaper product, my laptop boots in under 7 seconds. and files were transferring between my old hdd and new ssd at 100MB/sec which is the limit of my HDD. Kinda felt like a dunce for not realizing there could be different benchmarks going on, again marketing at its finest.

Update: It looks like they changed the physical look of the outer casing but at the time of my purchase, S60 looked like the pictures attached in this review. Thanks.

Silicon Power S60 Solid State Drive is an entry level yet well performing hard drive that can read and write up to 550 mb/s and 500 mb/s respectively. I've reviewed many flash drives by Silicon Power, and this SSD does not disappoint either. With a sleek brushed aluminum design, it supports TRIM and garbage collection technology to keep it running well down the road. It's also only 7mm thin, being a few millimeters thinner than a regular spinning hard drive. Not only will this make your computer faster, it'll make it a lighter and quieter too.

This SSD looks pretty awesome. It's unbelievably light but the metal casing feels solid too. It's too bad you'll need to keep this beauty hidden inside the computer. With the original spinning hard drive, the computer took 1 min 7.78 sec whereas this SSD only took 12.27 seconds to load Mac OS. While the original hard drive did slow down over a year of use, we can see what kind of performance boost this SSD can offer. From my personal test using Blackmagicdesign's Disk Speed Test, I was able to get 325.9 mb/s and 176.3 mb/s for reading and writing, respectively. Not exactly what its max potential is advertised to be, but still significantly faster than a spinning hard drive. There's nothing to go wrong about this SSD and I would trust it to keep my data safe even if a car runs over it a few times!

Pros
+ Brushed aluminum housing looks great
+ Light and thin
+ Supports TRIM and garbage collection

Cons
– Write speed is much lower than advertised
