In all honesty, I purchased this machine at WalMart for much less than currently listed here. The main selling points to me were the low profile cleaning head and the attachments. This dude has an attachment that will fit anywhere to clean.

I purchased a Hoover Floormate hard floor cleaner last year and fell in love with it. One of the best purchases I've ever made. So when I saw an ad on TV for a similar machine for carpet, I thought "Sold!" and headed for town to take a look at one in person.

My old carpet cleaning machine is a 1980's Bissell canister style with a 6 inch cleaning head and 5 gallon capacity. It is getting harder and harder to lug around to fill and empty with each passing year. With this machine, I did make many, many trips to the sink but it was so much easier carrying only 1 gallon of water at a time. There was, however, a learning curve.

When the machine is set on "Wash," it lays down the soap. Since I no longer mix the soap with the water in the tank as I did with the old machine, this machine lays down a lot more soap. Do not make more than two passes over a single swath of carpet in wash mode. Flip the switch to "Rinse" and make slow repeat passes until the water being picked up is no longer white and foamy. Oh my gosh the dirt this thing picks up! Wow...

When emptying and replacing the pick up tank, be sure to push it into position until you hear a firm "click." I had a moment of panic when I realized it was not picking up any water after I laid down a lot of rinse water. I touched the tank, it clicked, and immediately picked up all the water from the carpet.

When drying the carpet, you have to move V-E-R-Y S-L-0-W-L-Y. I had a bit of trouble with that one.

Bought this unit at a local Walmart because of price.
I picked it out because it's a new model, is light & maneuverable, has a large motor (10 A) with good suction, heats the carpet, and it dissembles easily to empty & clean.
Tested it out on a small area of carpet with poor results. Far more water was left in the carpet than went into the tank - no matter how slow or how often it traveled over the wet carpet (without laying down any water). The front beater bar scraped up a lot of carpet fiber and clogged things up everywhere - especially in the front suction piece.
To me, the major issues seemed to stem from the beater bar. The brushes were too stiff and too long - tearing up the carpet and lifting the front lip so that suction was impaired. The rotary brushes were gentle enough and appeared to pose no problem.
So... I chopped the beater-bar brushes by half - maybe even more & weakened them as best I could.
Resulting operation was MUCH better. The return tank had extracted at least twice the dirty water afterward ... and it didn't kill the carpet.
... good enough !

I purchased at WalMart as well because of the price point. Have to say in all fairness our carpet was filthy. It was the carpet in our primary living room where we traffic, and spill and have puppy messes. This machine worked magic on the carpet. Didn't realize how bad the carpet smelled and how much the odor and whatever else was being put into the air affected us. It deep cleaned the carpet. Also cleaned an area of the carpet that is the highest traffic area in my home. It hasn't looked this good in 8 years, cleaned it almost like new. The fact that it has two sets of brushing going on at same time. So it's like getting two passes on the carpet with a single pass.

This product does use a bit of water and will leave your carpet damp. Used a single box fan for a few hours and the carpet dried up. Noted that there is much leaking of water once the unit is turned off. When you are done shampooing carpet, be sure and remove the unit to the garage or somewhere the water can drain and evaporate. We've only done one room in our house but feel it's a bargain already. Will update this post if problems arise with this unit.

Haven't used the attachment brush yet but will do so soon. Plan on cleaning stairwell and shampooing car seat. Will post update at some point on how that went.

Also purchased this at walmart. The brushes do a good job of scrubbing the carpet. I was pretty shocked how much animal hair it pulled up. However it barely sucked up the water. Carpets shouldn't be soaking wet when using a nice carpet cleaner. Also for the price, it is very chintzy and basic.

Carpet cleaners, we have used so many… we even had the Kirby people do a demo on our most stained carpet with little impact. We have tried rug doctors, you name it we tried it. Our carpets are high trafficked by three cats, three dogs (who like to mark their territory arrrg) three humans. Over the years there have been oil spills, hair dye mishaps, juice, coffee and all sorts of liquids and solids that never seem to wash out.
Finally we needed to make a decision, new carpet or spend a couple of hundred on our own carpet cleaner. You guessed it. We did our home work and did some research, we looked at the reviews on Amazon and Walmart and we chose the Hoover Dual Power Pro Carpet Washer Cleaner.

We unpacked it (some assembly required but idiot proof instructions) and away we went. First we washed then rinsed. It works, I mean it really really works. Stains I thought would never come out came out effortlessly, no scrubbing, just push and pull back. We were all pretty delighted with the results. It’s a heavy-ish machine so use back wheels for getting out of its home to the room you are going to use it on. You have to change the water tank manually and don’t forget to use hot water. Machine dispenses Clean water with the cleaning solution on the carpet which then its sucked up with the now dirty water and all into a separate tank (Clever Hoover People).

There is a down side but absolutely nothing to do with the machine. We used the hoover recommended cleaning solution the Hoover pro plus x2. This stuff is toxic and gave me migraine. I swapped it out for a Bissell eco friendly solution, much better.
