The description isn't 100% clear about the material; If this item was real stained glass, it would cost $90 each instead of $18. The inserts are plastic, but decent quality and thin so that it acts as glass.

I'd highly recommend getting new batteries to replace the ones that come with this. if you look at the links below you'll see more of my reviews. This post cap comes with (1) 400 mAh battery. When shopping for batteries you probably won't find 400-mAh batteries because that rating is VERY low. You should look for mAh rating at least 600, if not higher(1000+).

It is perfectly acceptable to interchange mAh ratings because mAh basically refers to battery capacity:
mAh(milliampere-hour) refers to the the electric charge transferred by a steady current. This battery rated at 400mAh should discharge 400 milliamp / hour. Basically if you buy 800mAh batteries you will roughly double the amount of time the light stays on. 1200mAh would triple the time, 1600 would quadruple the time that your solar light stays bright. I hope that makes sense, the Wikipedia article about mAh is REALLY confusing.

It is indeed true, it does burn about 6 times brighter then the cheapest white solar light you can buy. HOWEVER, it only stays lit for about 3 hours and then it goes completely out. The directions say their is a switch on it to use it as a turn on turn off kinda light But I can not find such a switch. Also the little bracket it comes with is appealing to mount it somewhere other then a post. BUT, I used mine on a post and used the little bracket for something else. SO that's a plus.

All in all I like it it is pretty almost grand looking. In a perfect world if it stayed on at least 6 hours I D given it 5 stars but three hours just is not acceptable for a light advertised as 6 times brighter

When I first installed the Stained Glass Solar Post Cap Lamp I loved them. It is cute. Even though it is plastic, it looked good. The lamp is installed on my porch which does not get direct sun. The lamps still light up at night; although for only an hour. I did not mind the short time it stays lit because it is not in direct sun. When my outdoor spot lights come on, it appearantly charges the solar lamps, they will light for a short time after the outdoor lights go off.
The lamps are solely decorative, the light given off will not light a path, etc.
The big problem that I am experiencing is that after only 3 weeks of outdoor installation (it is an outdoor lamp), the paint is peeling!!! The lamps are now unsightly. If the paint continues to peel, both lamps will be ugly.
I have just contacted customer service and am awaiting their reply.

Beware--these caps do not fit vinyl posts! I gave it 3 stars because the product is nice--well made and worked well when tested, but the description is misleading. It would probably fit a 4 X 4 wooden post, but they aren't really 4 X 4, are they? My vinyl post measured a true 4 X 4, and the cap didn't come close to fitting. It had to be returned.

Nice quality, IF they get 8 hours of sun, they stay lite up for just as long. You don't need to buy a differant kind of batteries like one reviewer said because mine came with the batteries the reviewer said you should get.

These things are outstanding looking. The only problem I have is them being inconsistent, they don't work sometimes even though they have a full charge. It takes me taking the battery cap off and removing and reinserting the batteries for them to work. I purchased 6 of them and they all have the same issue. I am guessing it is something to do with the connection where the battery meets the coils, but I just haven't gotten around to taking it apart and trying to re-solder something better in. Overall, these lights are gorgeous and I enjoy the many compliments on their aesthetics.

update 5-1-2015 - The plastic coloring on the lamps has mostly faded from the original beautiful colors. The light seem to infrequently go out for no reason still. I am mostly disappointed by the fact that the color has faded, this was the main point of buying these things!!!

Also the mounting plastic bracket has since started to sag and seem of super poor quality.

Bought these lights several months back and they work perfectly. Easy to install and look great. The batteries last all night long, after a full day of sun. I will be purchasing more of these lights for other areas of the yard.

1 1/2 years later I find I am having to start replacing some of the lights. Not bad for being in the harsh S Florida sun and exposed to salt air (right on the water). Just wish they were a little brighter.

I put these on the tops of the posts on my fence and they look great. They are relatively low quality that look high quality at night and from far away. I have no fear of someone coming to steel them for the copper, etc. I do sometimes have to wipe off the top solar collecting panel so they can charge better. Very happy for the money and would buy more.
