OtterBox Defender Series cases are fantastic protection for modern smartphones. I just picked up the Defender case for my new Droid Turbo. This replaced the Defender case I've had for more than two years on my Galaxy S4.

Build quality is very good over all. I find it easy to grip/hold and assemble. However, the belt clip attaches to the case very differently on this Turbo version compared to my old Galaxy S4 case. This took a couple days to get used to. My old Defender case had an actual clip that held the phone in the belt clip. This new one uses four little buttons that you have to snap in simultaneously to get it secure. Day one I couldn't stand it and found the phone wanting to fall out. Muscle memory is key here as day three I'm getting the hang of it now.

There's really only one thing about this that I cannot stand. It's the reason I'm rating this 4 stars instead of 5. The built in "screen protector" is something I tore off my previous Defender case on day one. I put a Zagg InvisivibleShield on my GS4. On my Turbo I can't do this yet as no one has released custom made screen protectors for the Droid Turbo yet.

The plastic "screen protector" that's molded into the Defender case is HORRID. After an hour with this case I was already sick and tired of it. Now that it's day three I'm beyond eager to tear it off and put something real on my phone. Not only is it just a cheap plastic skin but it doesn't actually mate to the phone's skin. There's dead air space between the phone's screen and the plastic. This means I really have to press down to force it to contact the screen. This is causing a lot of errors as my phone is not getting the input it should be getting from my screen presses.

I hate this case. I have had Otter Box cases on all of my phones and have been extremely satisfied until I got the case for the Droid Turbo. I have broken two screens due to the phone popping out of the holster while walking and hitting the ground. I have contacted Otter Box about the problem and they refuse to do anything about it. They said that is what insurance is for. I guess they expect us to pay an inflated price for an over rated case as well as a deductible to replace broken screens. If you are having this same problem, replace your case with a different product before it's to late.

I bought this case even after reading the mixed reviews. My wife had a defender case on her previous iPhone. It seemed to work very well. However, this case feels like the developers were rushed in putting it out. The biggest design flaw I will talk about here is the screen protector. It is a simple piece of cheap plastic that is not right by any means. It does not contact the screen until you press it down. It doesn't make contact anywhere except on the very edge where the hard plastic shell contacts the phone. There is almost a 1/16 gap in the middle of the screen. I ripped it off after it took me three minutes to send this text: "OK. Good. My case just got here." I added more to the text, but not until after i took the screen protector off. I got a glass screen protector from Verizon that I am going to use instead.
Other than that issue, the only other one I have found so far is that the rubber outer shell doesn't extend any farther than the hard plastic shell does on the face of the phone. So, if the phone is dropped on its face, there is no cushion to protect it.
All in all, with the lack of cases available for the Droid Turbo, this one does seem to be the best on the market right now, provided you buy a separate screen protector.

I purchased mine through Verizon when I purchased the phone. The case protects the phone just fine, but he holster drops the phone if you bump anything while sitting down. On the plus side, I am meeting new people going back to restaurants and asking if I can look below their tables, and I wouldn't want someone to bother taking a phone that broke when it fell.
The case is good, the holster is not.

Otterbox defender cases in my opinion are one of the best phone protection cases for smartphones. I've had this case for about two months and have had it on my phone since I got it

Build Quality is good with a layer of plastic and rubber and a nice grip to your hand. I've dropped this phone on many occasions and there has never been a scratch to the phone and the case looked fine.
The screen protector however is very bad. Like many other reviewers said, there is a gap between the screen protector and the screen itself making the touchscreen SUPER unresponsive. After trying to use the phone with the protector, I immediately ripped it off and used it without a problem.
If your are looking for a phone case that protects your phone very well, then this case is for you. If you have to have a screen protector than I would just buy a screen protector from somewhere else and not use the built in one.

My husband got the Droid Turbo with Ballistic Nylon. As other reviewers had mentioned, he has terrible issues with this case, the screen protector bubbles and it is nearly impossible to use with the phone. He is so frustrated, and he does not want to take off the screen protector, because that's his reasoning behind having an Otterbox. Also, the case and belt clip are hard to use, and he has to make sure that he's connected the phone in the holster properly or it will fall out. He had a Moto Droid X2 with an Otterbox for years, and loved the case, but it seems that the rubberized exterior is now different and not as forgiving. Overall, we are not impressed with the new Otterbox and will be looking for something else for his new phone.
