Wow. Stunning bit of kit for any one looking at adding to their DJ equipment be it amateur or someone doing it for a living. There's so much here I can't begin to touch it all.

My first thoughts were based on price as at the time of writing it just didn't seem possible a pro kit could come in at the cost. Of course you need one of the three extra devices required for it to actually work - a laptop, phone or tablet. So I guess these devices reduce a lot of the overhead in terms of both cost and CPU processing, so what you really have is a husk; a dumb terminal that without the brains of one of the three devices. It is little more than a motherboard controller. You will of course also need some sort of speaker system or cans to hear your masterpieces.

Naturally that's an unfair generalization, as an incredible amount of thought has gone into the layout and of course the LED bling that accompanies it. Everything from the lit swoosh as it powers up to the gorgeous soft buttons feel high-end.

I use it primarily with my ipad so your experience may vary but for me it's the perfect marrying of tablet and controller. The ability to loop back is included so you can preview the next track through phones before sending live... even on an ipad. That's impressive and things just get better from there.

The included software is everything you need to get going whether you're after using the supplied sounds, into sampling or wish to use your catalog the versatility is endless. You can even roam around your party, altering effects, gain, modulation etc using your cellphone and, thanks to great minds, the device warns you of an ending track and even gives you a panic button incase you're half way across the room when the track ends.Read more ›

I'm so old that I used to pull music from vinyl to make mixtapes for our parties and road trips. That evolved to CDs for dinner parties of every kind, from barbeque to blacktie. These days, I have playlists for just about every event or activity. With streaming music services I can set up an entire list or just que a couple of songs. Doing it on the fly and being able to have songs flow into the next makes me feel like a Junior DJ. I've played with a few mobile apps for mixing with some success, but I never thought of having my own DJ Controller. I've thought of them as something for pros, too expensive and too steep of a learning curve. I am pleased that the Hercules Universal DJ proves me wrong on every point. Don't get me wrong, I am not looking for a DJ gig now, anytime soon, or ever. I am, however, looking forward to becoming more skilled. After the easy initial setup (software install) I knew I was going to have some fun. The Hercules DJ Controller lets you control two deck wheels, plus has a mixer and sampler and effects. The PC display portion shows a BPM (beats per minute) box and wave line with each deck. The BPM number and the wave line show each deck's tempo and lets you look ahead point-by-point in the song. These help big time beat matching, sampling, and adjusting fade, flow, etc. There is much more to the controller, but I'm not there yet. DJUCED mobile apps allow music to be pulled from multiple sources, not just the PC and one gives the ability to use a smartphone as the controller, in case you want to join guests instead of sticking behind the device. There is a way to make and share playlists and even have people vote on what they'd like to hear. I've always loved music, even though I've never been too musically inclined. I've also always wanted to have the tools to be a DJ, not just playing music, but actually mixing it and manipulating it.

This unit allows you to become your own DJ, complete with "turntables," effects, looping, and sampling. You can control so many things about a song, including volume, equalizer, pitch, etc. This unit puts so much at the palm of your hands, it's like a toy for adults. You can record your own mixes or simply be the cool music guy at the party.

The unit is controlled through DJUCED a program that runs on computers and smart phones. It is a pretty easy to use, intuitive interface that works well with the physical unit. Once I started playing around, I was able to do quite a lot in just minutes. There are three options: tablet, laptop, or dual screen. I've mainly used laptop since it's easiest for me personally.

Setting this thing up is honestly a pain in the butt. The installation, for me, was a bit buggy and the instructions are pretty sparse and worthless. You definitely have to feel it out yourself. Basically, you plug in the USB (or set up via bluetooth), install the app, then plug in external speakers. From there, you can mix and play your songs. You have to feel your way around the program too since, again, the instructions don't help much.

As annoying as the process of setting it up and learning it was, I'm still giving it five stars because this is truly awesome. I love it and so does my young daughter. It is so fun with so many possibilities. If you've always wanted to be a DJ, at least on an amateur level, this is the place to start!
