This shine hair lotion promises relief from lack of body, dryness, and dullness. I tried it on several occasions and found it to be rather disappointing.

I have thick, shoulder length hair that is color treated. It is fine textured and wavy-straight. I tend to prefer hair products that control fly-aways and frizz but don't weigh the hair down or remove too much of whatever wave there is. I also find that using less of a hair product is preferable to using too much.

This is a thin white lotion dispensed through a pump. The instructions suggest applying 4-5 pumps of the product on to one's just washed, damp hair, starting at mid-length and then combing it through.

4 pumps of this lotion was far too much. After styling with a hair drier and a round brush, my hair was lank and dull. It was soft, but it had no shine and no body.
2 pumps of this lotion was somewhat better. My hair was soft but piece-y and textured. There was no shine and whatever natural fullness my hair had was gone. The ends of my hair seemed drier than usual.

I'd try reducing the amount to 1 pump but there are better products on the market for my hair needs. This one delieverd neither fullness nor shine and certainly did not "recharge" anything.

The missus and I both tried this hair product, me when I was getting out of control between relatively short-hair haircuts, and she as a normal everyday hair care product for her shoulder length hair. The label indicates two uses. One is for adding “youth” and shine to damp hair, which you style as usual after applying to wet, washed hair. The other is as a touch up to dry hair that is losing its vitality as the day wears on.

For the damp hair application, it seemed to work pretty well. The product smells nice and hair was easy to style and (I’ll say) fresh looking. I think one would definitely want to use some active drying and styling with this, as I believe there is some danger of hair looking greasy and flat if you don’t. I say that because as a touch up to dry hair, that’s really what it does. Sure, it brings the frizz of the stray curl under control, but it does it by making hair wet-looking and heavy. Users will have to experiment with which level of each application they are comfortable with.

This is an above average post-shampoo styling aid, and a more-or-less average touch up cream, but it smells good and is priced very economically. For all that, we think four stars is a fair rating for this Tresemme hair lotion.

Now I have hair with enough gray in it that I gave up trying to cover it up about 6 months ago. Just too many of those quirky, twisty gray strands that stubbornly refused to take and hold onto chemical color for any length of time. It was like they were a united front determined to make me come to terms with my age.

At any rate, the most wiry of gray strands keep my hair in a most disheveled state, which is why I was happy to try out this shine lotion, youth boost.

Immediately I noticed that:
1. The fragrance is awesome. I really like the pretty floral scent.
2. Rubbing just a few pumps of lotion into my hair immediately tamed the wiry gray strands.
3. While it tamed the most obnoxious strands of hair, it did not weigh down my wavy hair style.
4. Left hair shiny and soft.

i really like this product and will use it again.

Like with SO many hair products. . . it all depends upon your hair. Honestly, I’m not sure that this product does a lot of anything. . . . and I usually like Tresemme products. It doesn’t really shine. . . It can weigh your hair down a lot, if you use the “recommended” amount of 4-squirts. I think certainly less is better with this product. Also, I think it might work better on gray hair.

The Tresemme Shine Lotion, is just that, lotion that you pump into your hand and then rub into your hair, restoring "youthful shine" to dull, dry, lifeless, aging hair. Sounds like a good thing, but unfortunately, it didn't really work as-advertised for my wife. In her case, using the product as-directed (rubbing it into damp hair from the mid lengths and then combing through), it would at first seem to help, restoring shine. Unfortunately, after she went ahead finishing her hair, it actually seemed to make it frizzy, something she hasn't had much of an issue with since she stopped coloring her hair. All she really does is blow-dry and brush, very occasionally using a straightening iron (which she hasn't used while using the Tresemme Youth Boost). She continued to use it for a few days, and the hair would continue to get frizzy just the same way. In her case, it just didn't work.

My wife recommended that I should try it, since my hair would be more along the lines of "aged" (which she has no grey or silver hair, I got my first at age 13 and am now roughly 40% grey/silver). Now, I realize that I'm probably not among the primary demographic (not sure my hair is really long enough for a product like this), but it did seem to increase the shine and calm a couple of the spots where my hair seems to have a mind of its own, without weighing it down (which is how a lot of the products I use control that). I found the floral scent a little strong, but pleasant (this was the one thing my wife liked the most about it).

Ultimately, the Tresemme Shine Lotion Youth Boost is going to work for some, while not really doing the job for others. At the price-point (less than $4), it's worth a shot. I'm not sure if I'll continue using it, but my mother (she's in her 60's and has shoulder-length color-treated hair) is now giving it a try to see how it works for her.
