I don't know how it works, but I love these pencils! I love the way they feel like a regular pencil. Very sturdy and never needs sharpening. And you never have to manually advance the lead! It's automatic, eliminating breakage and lead waste!! AND the erasure actually erases instead of smearing!!

These are great pencils for kids who struggle with lead length. They never have to think about it and don't keep breakng the lead. Also no wasting lead by feeding it out and breaking it off when they get bored.

I like pencils rather than pens, and these are the best...all you do is insert another lead when the previous one wears out, and you're using the same pencil over and over again without grinding it down to a stub. I've been using Ticonderoga for at least 10 years, and always have them on hand, at home and at work.

When they work, they are great. When they don't, they suck ! I'm now on my last one in the package. All the others are in the trash. You can hear the extra leads in the body but there is no way to get them to come out. Even the extra cartridges can't make it work.

I received these as a gift. These pencils have a unique advance system. As you write the pencil automatically advances the lead for you. It has been my experience​ that unless you pick your pencil up at regular intervals it starts to fade and you end up writing with the plastic part of the pencil. It kind of sucks. I wish they were on the level. Sorry Ticonderoga.... you are still my favorite wooden pencil..♥
