I tried these in a couple of different ways and they worked well in each. I put these in a morning smoothie (only about half a tablespoon of this in 8 ounces of smoothie) and I couldn't really taste them or feel the texture, which is honestly probably best for this type of product. I got the nutrition without sacrificing flavor. I also used them in lemon poppyseed muffins; I substituted 1/8 of the flour with this ground flaxseed meal. It did not noticeably change the flavor or texture of the muffins.

This is a brown powder, darker than wheat flour but lighter than cacao powder. It is somewhat coarsely milled compared to, say, cacao powder or white flour, but on par with some whole grain flours. Mine was free-flowing and non-clumpy, but of course you would have to remember to keep the package closed and store in a cool, dry area to make sure it stays this way.

Please note that the omega 3 fatty acids in flax are pretty much all ALA. This is not the active form in the body and is inefficiently converted to the active forms, DHA and EPA. Add this to your foods for the minerals, protein, and fiber, but if you want DHA and EPA, you will need a supplement (either fish oil or an algae-based vegan supplement).

You can see the full nutrition facts panel if you zoom in on the product images. One serving has 3 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber, which is pretty good for two tablespoons of anything.

This product is freshness-sealed in a ziptop package that can be reclosed after use. Even if you get some of the powder on the zipper, it will close. I like that it is light-blocking, which should preserve freshness. Because flax seeds are high in oil, and this product is ground, which exposes more surface area to the air, it is best to use it within a few months of opening and/or to store it in the refrigerator or freezer.

I was sent this product for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

I have never tried Ground Flax Seed before; however, I've loved every product Viva Labs has sent to me for review before, so why not? I tried this out with the recommended food/drinks. I added this to milk shakes, smoothies and in baked goods. I loved it! I noticed a huge difference in my digestive health the days I used this flax seed. Note: I'm 26 and do not have any digestive issues. This gave me a little more 'regularity' with my digestive system and made me feel less bloated after. I tried it for 2 weeks, trying to use it at least twice a day. I then compared by not using the flax seed for two weeks. I definitely noticed a difference in bloating and overall digestive health.

I will definitely continue to use the product in my baked goods. I wasn't a huge fan of it in my smoothies or milk shakes because it did have a slight taste. My sister on the other hand LOVED it in just about everything she tried. We both plan to continue using it!

Viva labs asked if I'd try out their Organic Ground Flax Seed for a real-experience review. I have tried other Viva Lab products, so I agreed. Flax seed meal is a base product in the power bars I make. Flour, even whole wheat flour, has too many carbs for my diabetic diet.

"Flax seed is pretty much all the same" is what I thought before I tried this brand. Here's what I discovered:
1. The grind is finer, and clean. I don't have to pick out twigs, small clumps of uncut seeds, or a ring--always a risk if you use bulk food bins.
2. The power bars batter is smoother and easier to blend with the other ingredients.
3. They all rise about to the same size and cook evenly. My other flaxseed source didn't do that. (See the attached photo).
4. The pucks (what I call the bars) are lighter, have a finer crumb, and show up the taste of the other products I mix in.

Also great, is the power bars last longer in the fridge. They don't go stale as quickly, and stay moist longer. I'm pleased I tried the product, and I'm willing to spend the extra money to get a better product.

I admit it. I am a regular supporter of Viva Labs. There is a reason for this. It is because their products have never failed me. They have never given me any cause for concern over the past two years. I don't use all of their products. I don't even use most of them. I use four or five semi-regularly. Basically, the cocoa nibs, the gogi berries, ground flaxseed, Omega-3 fish oil, quinoa, and ground cocoa powder. Right now I happen to have all of those on hand. Usually I am out of one or more of them. The Omega-3 fish oil and the flaxseed get the most use I would guess. The others are more here and there as toppings for cereal or mixed in shakes. Anyway, I have come to depend on Viva Labs because they have uniformly high quality products.

The Organic Ground Flaxseed is one of my favorite "go to" items. I use it regularly in cookies and quick breads as well as mixed in protein shakes after a gym workout. I also like it mixed in my home made yogurt with gogi berries. What makes this flaxseed any better than others.?? Well, two things. First is the sourcing of the flax seed. This is a certified USDA organic product. It is also 100% non-GMO. It is a product of Canada. Supposedly the climate conditions there are perfect along with the soil. I will assume that is correct, although I cannot prove it. Second, Viva Labs Ground Flaxseed is ground to a powder and then sifted to remove any larger pieces that have managed to evade the grinding process. This means it will incorporate easier into batters for quick breads and will mix well into protein shakes. Some of the other flaxseed powders I have used were terribly gritty and the products were very unevenly ground. Not so with Viva Labs.

It should be noted that flaxseed (ground or otherwise..) is full of oil.
