We've been thinking about getting a sandbox for our toddler, since he just loves to get into the dirt, but hesitated since we have cats and we didn't want them getting into it if someone forgot to replace the cover. We were also worried about the mess, but have since come to the conclusion that when you have kids, and especially a toddler, mess is inevitable!
The set up was so easy that my 17 year old son put it together while we were out buying the sand. He did say that he used a screw gun to put the eyes on, rather than a screw driver, since it was hard to do with the screw driver because the holes were not pre-drilled. But it was fast and easy, and his 7 year old sister helped him place the stickers, which made the assembly fun for her too. The design was very cute and appealing for our children when it was all set up.
I read other reviews on this product which stated that it can hold more than the 350 pounds listed on the box, so we decided to try 400 pounds of play sand and it fit great. The kids were trying to jump in immediately after we started pouring the bags in, they were so excited. When we got it all filled, four of our kids, ages 10, 7, 4 and 2 immediately moved in to start playing in the sand. The sand box held up great to all of them jumping in there and running their hands through it. Size-wise, 2-3 small children can sit in there very comfortably. There's even a bench, designed as the seat of a car, for those who don't want to sit directly on the sand. It even has two impressions for cup holders.
The lid fits on top just fine and was easy for the kids to replace themselves. It's not a tight fit, and I have read that it's not rain-proof, but I'm sure it would keep the majority of the rain out.Read more ›
