This is a beautiful coat. Extremely thin and lightweight. I have a pair of Columbia pants that uses the Omni-heat reflective technology so I know it can add significant warmth, but it's not miraculous. If you need a coat for sub-freezing temperatures, I don't think this will be sufficient as your only winter coat.

This morning the temp was 31 degrees and according to weather channel it "feels like 26". There was a slight wind and sky was totally clear. I stepped outside w/ my normal under layers - a North Face mid-weight base layer plus a Columbia fleece pull over - these are what I usually wear in my house (set at 68 degrees F), then this coat, plus gloves. I also have my Columbia omni heat lined pants on, because the coat is not long enough to keep my legs warm. It reaches my mid-thigh, and only mid-calf length can keep my legs warm. I also have the hood up. coat zipped all the way up. I stood outside for only a few minutes - less than 5 minutes I think, while my breakfast was cooking on the stove. It was Ok. I wasn't "toasty", but wasn't really cold either. Just a hint of chill. If I were walking or doing moderate activities it may be warm enough. I do have a heavier down coat that goes below the knee and that definitely feels warmer, but also make me feel like a mama bear. The Mighty Lite is perfect when you need to be more nimble and active, or when you need to sit in a car, or shop in mall so you don't over heat or having to carry a big heavy coat. It's not warm enough for 20 and below. 30s is ok if you are at least doing some moderate activities and layered well. That said, everyone's tolerance for cold is different. Yesterday I saw someone walking in short sleeve and shorts without a shiver, while I was bundled up in 3 layers.

This will be the third jacket of this kind that I've gotten. I bought the other two in the the Quill color (purple). Despite being very thin and lightweight, this jacket is very warm. I'm good to go with a sweater underneath in these more and more brutal Northeast winters. My only complaint is that the hood is loose and doesn't stay up. There is no way to tighten it. It only stays on when I'm wearing a hat underneath the hood.

Love the concept and no bulk, but at 31degrees out I was cold.
The coat is thin & stylish, but I need more warmth from a coat.
Had to fight the zipper a few times also.
The color is pretty, almost has an irridescence to it that didnt show up on my monitor when looking at the model pix.
Sigh...must return this, & my coat hunt continues.

Wearing this jacket is like lying in bed on a cold night under a thin blanket. It's OK until you move, and then the chill sets in. I really wanted to love this jacket! Liked the design (although the flap stands up if the zip is undone at the chest which is irritating) but it was not nearly warm enough. I was super excited about the whole Omni-heat phenomenon, but those astronauts must've frozen their butts off up there! It really didn't do a whole lot except look cool. Overall, a nice design (buy a size up- it's tight) but next to useless. Even with layers. On a 50 degree day!

This coat was highly recommended for a lightweight option that would withstand the harsh North East winters. Sure, it's great in moderate weather but it didn't hold s candle to traditional down filled coats when the temps dropped below zero. Also, not made for short & curvy types. I wear 6-8 but had to size up to a Large to fit my hips & bust. This left the arms too long. Not thrilled with this at all. I tested it all last winter but found I grabbed another Columbia down filled coat by January to stay warm.

Its very light weight and so far warm enough. The purple is very pretty. I love the dual zipper front, the zippered pockets (there's even one inside on the chest) and the over the hands liner. As mentioned other places, the hood is a little floppy, so I took off one star.

It's a great coat in terms of comfort. I have two major issues. The first is it claims to be warm. It is NOT. It keeps me warm to about 45 degrees, and then forget it. I had bought this, expecting it to be my winter coat. It's like wearing my rain jacket when I was a soccer player. Maybe if I layered several sweatshirts or fleeces under it, but the point was for it to keep me warm without having to do that. And it ONLY works to keep me relatively warm if it zips.
And this is issue #2. The zippers are terrible. Yes, there are two- those double way one s(meaning you could zip it, pull the zippers up, and then unzip in either direction). The issue is it's a difficult zipper to maneuver (and I'm a 36 year old healthy human- I deal with zippers all the time on kids' clothes and my own coats, and have never had an issue). It feels like poor manufacturing- and I have to stand there and struggle to try to get the teeth in just right, and then hope I can get the zipper to move up. I'd say 70% of the time, I fail, and have to grab a different coat because I'm in a rush. And if it's not zipped, I might as well be wearing a light rain coat or something like that (just a thin, flimsy coat).
If you are looking for a spring jacket, for when it's between 50-70 degrees out, this is a decent one. If you need a winter coat, get something thicker.
