If you like EXP74's, you might want to give these a try. The E and A courses are slightly higher gauges, which helps with tone and sustain. My A strings tend to stay in tune better with the heavier gauge as well. I don't notice the increased gauge much when playing.

Very excellent. The heavier E and A really match my mandolin - Breedlove FF Vintage - and the wound pair ring just right. Our lead singer noticed the difference immediately, hearing the fills I play behind her on one of our tunes. The strings play well with what I call tight action, heavy strings but sort of low action, that allow very clear notes when medium or soft picked, but give a ring and slap when hard picked. Chris Thile says they last a long time, too...

I generally play EXP74s on my mandolins, but was intrigued by the idea of a heavier A, so I got a set of these. But after playing them in for two weeks, it became clear that I hated them :) The extra tension definitely makes them more stiff. I can see this being an advantage for many players/styles... but not for me/mine. They are also very bright; even after two weeks. They remind me of the VERY popular J74 (which I also don't like). Again, many folks will probably dig this. D'Addario makes quality strings, and these are no exception... they're just not for me.
