First off, I had a lot of questions about this camera and didn't get much answer from sony support or anywhere else. (Probably cause its brand new). But here is what I gathered so far.

Battery Life when recording in 4k XAVC S is about 50 minute to 1 hour depending on your battery.
Memory space when recording in 4k XAVC S is about 40gb before the battery runs out. (So pretty much its about 800mb per minute.)
All of my old attachment still works on the new action camera.
The back end of the Sony action camera has two way to open it. One way is open the back completely which lets you changed the battery/memory card and all the ports. The second way is to open only one side which is the ports for charging and etc. Which is really awesome since you can technically just plug it into a power source and keep recording without the waterproof case.
The camera definitely gets pretty warm/hot when recording in 4k. (So be careful recording in hot area. It will shut off when it gets too hot.)

Whatever you do, DO NOT LISTEN TO THE SONY REP GUY! That guy straight up lied to me saying any memory card will work on this camera as long as it's a class 10. That is not the case. If you want to use all the modes on your camera it has to be at least U3 for 4K. So this the memory card that I eventually found and worked.

Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB

As you can see if you look at the bottom left of the memory card picture you see the letter U with a 3 in it. That has to be on the memory card of whichever micro SD card you want to buy in order to record 4k.

I own several GoPro cameras and constantly am making videos with and about them for my YouTube channel Digital Tech Reviews & Tips. However, I had not had any experience with Sony's line of action cams prior to purchasing the FDR-X1000V. This is their newest and most advanced model, and is aimed to compete directly with the GoPro HERO 4 Black edition. With that in mind I performed many tests comparing the quality and features of the two (but more on that later).
First I set about trying to understand every mode and setting which the Sony cam offers. Initially I was extremely put off by several things, namely: the lack of a dedicated on/off button, slow menu response times when tweaking settings on the camera, and the amount of clicks it takes to get through the menus. As I used the cam more and got used to the way Sony does things, the menus didn't seem quite as complex and I was finally able to completely understand the way that the video resolutions are labeled. I also connected my smartphone to it via Wifi and the free Play Memories app and began exploring what it had to offer. The app definitely doesn't let you access as many settings as the GoPro app, however it does let you adjust the white balance to whatever color temperature you wish (between 2500k & 9900k), auto download any picture you take to review it, and mirror or add grid lines to the live view picture displayed on your smartphone. There is also an underwater mode which I haven't quite figured out what it does technically, but does seem to improve the accuracy of colors when filming underwater.
The question which most people are likely wondering is: “How does the video and image quality compares to the GoPro 4 Black?

I chose this camera over the GoPro for 2 reasons:
1. I already had an ActionCam in the past so I had attachments to work with it
2. I like the fact that it records stereo as opposed to mono audio

I got to use it for the first time last night after 2 days of trying to figure out how to get all the settings to work. I had issues with it because if you don't have at least 64 GB of memory then it won't let you access any of the 4k or XAV-C options for recording format. Without that you are left with an action cam that only can go up to 1080 @ 60p. I like the menu options once you can get them all to work and the camera itself seems sturdy. After using it in 2160 24p @ 100mbs I'm really impressed with the video ( http://youtu.be/oXoy6MWo0nk?list=UUdTDIKjemXVkSjIAu7qjvjA , http://youtu.be/yOioouc6KRY ). I tried it 2 different ways; once with the case on it and the other time I used it without the case. I didn't really notice anything with the image but there was some wind noise once I took the case off. I haven't tried any of the white balance, color, wind reduction or stability settings yet but I like that it has a wide variety of options. I used the headstrap mount which just fits around a helmet for those of you that don't want to put adhesive on your helmet. I also had the angle mount with the camera and unfortunately for the first video I had it angled down too far. The nice thing about this camera is that with the angle mount and the headstrap it is nice and secure without having the base plate. I like that it has the 1/4 20 screw bottom so there is a lot of flexibility for use.
