These have been great for winter in the high Rockies. Super comfortable for hikes, snoeshoeing, and everyday wear. Waterproof completely so far, and GREAT grip on ice and snow, even steep hills.

    I'd definitely buy again.

One point that could be improved with most any brand high shoe with lace hooks... Please add some form of lace blocker/diverter so the laces can't get caught on the other shoes hook. These metal hooks are prominent, and easily catch the other shoes laces. I have seen some hooks that have an integrated ramp opposite from the hook, all molded in the same plastic assembly, so the laces are nearly impossible to get hooked. I've fallen several times from this, luckily not off a cliff. I've also had several of the hooks rip out of the rivets now from this happening. There is a better way, as on some Vasque shoes I also own.

Love these boots! After suffering through several years of knee pain, and countless purchases of expensive shoes and boots to try and help remedy the problem, my son (who is a physical therapist) convinced me to go "minimal" with all my footwear. Zero drop shoes were the answer. My knee and lower back pain have been alleviated, and I wish like hell that I'd have listened to my son earlier. I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and am an avid snowshoer (sp?) in winter. For weeks I have been trying to find a pair of waterproof, insulated winter boots that are minimalist in design, and appropriate to wear with snow shoes, that don't cost upwards of $300. I have tried Vivobarefoot (very narrow), Several pairs of Bogs (too tight), Keen (very stiff soles), and Innov8 (very narrow) among others. I have ordered, and subsequently returned, no less than 6 different pairs of boots in the past several weeks--that is, until I found these. Oh happy day, I found my boots! The soles are quite flexible, mostly flat, and the heels will hang on to a pair of snowshoes. I took it one step further and removed the thick air cushion insoles that came with these boots, as they were pretty stiff, and looked like they would jack my heels up, and instead inserted a flat pair of insoles from my zero drop sneakers for a bit of insulation from the cold ground. Put on my merino wool socks, and I am good to go! Typical of Merrell, the boots have an ample toebox, and are well made. They have great traction, and I am happy all over about this purchase.

Comfy. Massive. Be careful driving you truck at first as your brain relearns the dimensions of the shoe as you hit the brake, accelerator, etc. (Ok, mine are size 15, so that is part of it.) So comfortable and warm. Like walking on the world's thickest carpet.
Just guessing, but as these seem to have a sole that is on the softer/grippier side, the sole probably will have a shorter lifespan than something with a harder sole. But I don't care. The grip to the ground is what is important in winter. I am sure they will last a few seasons. They seem very well constructed. Since they are a taller boot, you will feel a little more slight pressure on your shins as you break them in, but that will happen with any boot tall enough to keep you totally out of about 11 inches of snow.

I did not buy on Amazon so I can't vouch for the shipping etc however we all know Amazon is amazing so I'm sure your experience there will be exceptional!

As for the boot I can't say enough about how pleased I am! I've been searching for a winter boot that is waterproof and insulated that is not massive and bulky. I purchased the Merrell Polarand 8 previous to buying this and found it to be too bulky and stiff so I sent it back.

I have a local Merrell store near me and went and purchased the Fraxion 8 to replace the Polarand 8 I no longer wanted. What a difference! Immediate difference in comfort, felt already broke in and very flexible on the foot. Has less of a heel drop so it's closer to mid striking boot than any others I've come across.

Warmth was exceptional! But not so hot that it becomes uncomfortable. I live in Colorado and we have pretty great temps most of the year. Right now it's obviously winter and we have had some low temps at night. I recently took the boots out in 8 degree weather in the snow for an extended period and was impressed by how my feet stayed warm but not hot the entire time!

Also the grip on the outsole is wonderful. You feel very sure footed when out and about in uneven terrain. Haven't hiked in them yet but I imagine they are a comfortable winter hiker.

Buy this boot if you are looking for a warm yet non bulky/stiff winter boot you will not be disappointed! I purchased mine in the silvery/grey monument color and they look sharp!

I would order a half size bigger. These boots are insanely comfortable. Good padding. I got them for a trip to CO. I wore them in 20 degrees and my feet were sweating with wool socks. I will be wearing regular socks with these back in VA. They had great traction on my hike in semi packed snow. The trail was uphill and slippery and these did well. The tread pattern gets decent grip.

I wear them pretty loose because I tend to get leg swelling... and my only gripe is that the top of the boot starts to hurt against my lower calf. Not the boots fault... it's supposed to be laced up and tightened.
