I have had this product for more than 8 years now. So let's say I have some history with this thing.... I have saved hours and hours of cleaning with 409 because of this product, which I didn't know existed until someone gave me this, right around 2006. In all that time...

1. The metal screen has not come off
2. It remains easily cleanable
3. Survived dozens of dishwashing machine washings

My pics show how usable this is, even after 8 years.

It's also caused me to have to buy many more for people who saw this for the first time at my house. Now the warning: Kids tend to grab this thing (like 2-4 year olds) and you cannot tell it is hot. It does not turn red or anything when it's hot, and my son grabbed it for about 2 seconds and his hand blistered like crazy. It was quite painful for him. So keep it out of the reach of little kids!

Update: I purchased this 6 months ago, and use it regularly. To update here in early August 2015: it still works great, shows no signs of wear, and remains a product I recommend, and would purchase again. A lot of my visiting friends for sporting events who have tasted my pizza using the technique described below immediately jumped on Amazon and bought both the Culina and the Lodge cast iron pizza pan, and are using this technique at their homes. After seeing how much pizza was being eaten here on Soccer Saturdays and Football Sundays, I did go back and buy a second set of these two items to accomodate the endless demainds for eating everything in sight of the visiting wonderfully fun normal people who get crazy on the weekends that I (mistakely) have invited here each weekend.

Friends and relatives: what can you do?

I guess my pizzas are too good as an attractive item to these Sat/Sun events. I will likely have to calm the frenzy down by putting anchovies on every pizza from here forward to reduce the thundering herds to normal levels that meet legal room capacity in my small rented apartment..

Use the techniques described above to elevate your pizza experience and result if you use a wet dough, and create your own great pizza universe that you can define for yourself!

Original review:I am happy with the build quality, the welds look good, the mesh of the screen seems higher quality than average meshes. I've used it for oven steaming in a 12" pan, and for a pizza idea we came up with last year for football season. I use a fairly wet pizza dough, and have found that my bottom crusts don't always get super nice and crusty. Using the Culina in conjunction with Lodge's Cast Iron big heavy pizza pan took care of that problem nicely.Read more ›

I just received this today and believe it or not I've used it 3 ways for cooking 2 different things! Okay, I'm carried away with excitement so let me slow down. First of all, this splatter screen is replacing one I already own. The typical round screen with a handle. No re-enforcement but has served me well over the years. Semi crummy looking but still useful. I saw this and thought, wow, that looks like an upgrade!! Glory! I like to cook if you can't tell. Anyways back to the splatter screen. It seems very well constructed. First off I checked the welds as several reviewers mentioned they were weak. Mine appeared just fine of course time will tell but I believe all is well.
I like the size of it. It's about the same as my old one. I enjoyed reading the reviews about how people were using it so I decided to try it tonight. First off I made spaghetti sauce and of course it worked great for that. Some of the crowd wanted pizza too. I know, is this a restaurant? One of the reviewers said they had used it with their Lodge pizza cast iron but here, we like our crusty super crispy. Normally I just put a frozen pizza on the racks of the oven to insure that but this time I put the frozen pizza on the splatter screen. Awesome sauce!! No more trying to slide the pizza off the grates onto a plate. I let the pizza cool a bit to get the initial "humidity" off of it, then slid it onto a hot pizza stone to slice up. Worked perfectly with a nice crispy crust. In the meanwhile the spaghetti sauce had been on the side, still piping hot while I cooked the noodles. So when I served the sauce, I simply wiped off the splatter screen and used it, foot side down, as a trivet. It held up under the weight of the sauce with no problem. So, if you've read this far, maybe that will give you a new idea as to how to use this "splatter" screen.

Only the screen is stainless steel but no mention of its quality anywhere in the description, there are many different grades of stainless steel and when it's not mention it typically reflects the lowest grade SS, everything else is made out of aluminium. I purchased Costco generic 13 inch splatters screen day before this one, I was curious. They are identical to the Costco seven dollar except for the little piece of cardboard wrap to the screen Handle with a piece of string.

Although I've become a fan of the new Culina line of products, when this first arrived the spouse and self had a parting of the ways...he liked the extra sturdy frame and footing but I was hesitant to adopt this product because of the larger splatter screen. Our prior model from another big brand, had a much smaller mesh. While it is true, the other one(s) (we actually had four...2 of this size and 2 in subsequent smaller sizes) lacked the footer (which is a ridiculously useful idea!) and had a smaller and much less comfortable handle, I thought the smaller mesh screen would capture more.

So, we put it to the test in a side by side. Two things immediately became apparent...first, this captures just about everything that matters as well as the other smaller screen and 2 - this washes up a LOT easier! In fact, we tossed out the other model. Unless your splatter is a super fine mist, this does the job just as well with half the cleanup afterwards. Even better, it's less prone to becoming unsightly and stained over time thanks to superior clean-up. It's also more durable than the fine mesh splatter screens. No wood handle - pure metal throughout. We even stuck this in the dishwasher and everything comes out great. Open handle makes it easy to hang, easy to store. All in all, this is a far superior splatter screen! Complimentary product provided for evaluation purpose.
