This bell works best for us. We are house training a puppy who is new to us, but 6 months old. We tried the tell bell, but we had to help our dog ring the bell plus she would carry it around in her mouth and play with it because it sits loosely on the floor. We tried the bells that hang on a ribbon from the door knob but again she would play with it, tug at it and ultimately the door was being scratched in the process. Plus it would jingle every time we used the door which would confuse all of us. The GoGo bell is the perfect size, easy to install, and easy for our dog to use. It is installed just to the right of the door so it only rings when deliberately touched. Update 10/1/15 Purchased a second GoGoBell for a second location because it is working so well! Highly recommend.

First of all, this bell works. We trained our puppy (unknown lab mix) at 3 months and it really wasn't that hard. Now she has an easy way to let us know to let her out. In fact, I'm sure the bell eliminated accidents - puppy and I just needed a simple language to use. The bell is tiny, cute and has a nice ring. I put it up with a velcro command strip (it was all I could find around the house) and if puppy is rough with it, the bell comes off the wall. However, no regrets on my part. I spent time teaching her to be gentle with it. She nudges it with her nose. The sad part is less than 2 months later the paint is all chipped from the bell part. It does't affect the functionality, but I don't think the bell will last long. I'll replace it with something more permanent.

Training your dog to ring the Dog Doorbell is pretty easy. Just rub their nose and paws on the Dog Doorbell each time you want to take them out. Repeat "outside" and then take them out. It was less than 2 weeks and she was trained to ring the Dog Doorbell herself each time she had to go out. It peels off the door easily but is tough enough not to fall off the door from them ringing it.

Our pup learned the bell quite fast. The thing is, if she didn't have access to the bell, she didn't know how to communicate to us that she needed to go outside. It occurred to me, that if we go visiting she won't have access to it there either. So, I took it down and taught her to bark once and take me to the door.

First, I taught her speak. Once she mastered that, I asked her if she needed to go outside, and I'd take her to the door. Once we were at the door, I gave the speak command and praised her when she barked, as I lead her out the door. Praising her again when she went potty.

This was exactly what we needed to help our puppy house train. Our puppy doesn't bark but goes to the door to be let out. If we don't see him go to the door he will have an accident. With this dog bell, he now can signal us when we don't see him. No more accidents by the door. Super easy to install, no drill required.

I made a homemade version of this "doggie-doorbell" years ago for a German Shepherd puppy that I was training, he learned how to ring my old version very well, the only problem I had with the one I made was - it did swing across the door because it was hanging on the door knob, so therefore it marked up the door, also when ever someone came in or out the door it would ring, so you did not always associate hearing it with the dog ringing it to go outside.

I recently acquired a little Norfolk Terrier, so when I saw the "GoGo Bell" on Amazon, I thought this is very clever since it does not swing across the door it will not mark up the door. After receiving the Bell, I placed it on to the door itself for a few days, using a "command-strip" adhesive tape so that I could remove it after the first few days of training.
Dogs associate words and sounds, along with consistent actions when you are training them, so each time the door opened and closed he would hear the little bell ring. Then each time we would take "Tator" out to go potty, we would also say-the-words and give the bell a little ring. Within two days, he had learned that when the bell rings, it means the door is opening, so he would run over to the door as soon as he would hear it.
On the third day, I moved the bell off of the door itself, by pulling the command-strip off, and I attached it about six inches to the right side of the door frame, down at his eye level (with another command-strip so it doesn't make holes in the wall using screws or nails). Days 3 and 4, every time we take him out to go "potty", we say the words and touch the bell.

So I was skeptical at first. The dogs in the videos were circus dogs or trained actors. I've had dogs all my life and never had I seen a dog ring a bell to go outside. We had just gotten a new German Shorthair puppy and I didn't want him jumping on the back door to get in and out. So I figured I would give it a try. The bell arrived promptly and well packaged. It included instructions on how to introduce your dog, and how to train him. I worked on it each day with my pup and every time we went outside I'd grab his paw and swat the bell. "Brrrrriiiiinnnnnggggg" this bell, while not obnoxious, could be heard over the blaring sounds in my house. Neither my daughters Dora marathon in the living room nor my wife's dueling Kathy Lee & Hoda on the surround sound in the bedroom (yeah I know just what I bought the Bose for) could drown out this might bell. Just as the bell tolled in Hemingway's novel, my GSP sounded the alarm when it was time to potty, he wanted to chase a butterfly he saw in the back, or trying to escape the wrath of momma when she found her shoes. It was cute at first, but as he grew older and larger he was really beating on that poor bell. Six months after we bought it our GSP now 8 months old gave it one final clobber. (See attached picture). I'm not sure how this could be prevented. I rated 3 stars simply because it didn't last a year. Functionally the bell did hold up its end of the bargain until he snapped it off. If they could sell a more durable version I'd love one!
