I bought one of these about four years ago and as a background artist in the animation indusry I use it every day. Well Its been through everything dropped on the floor countless times and still keeps going stong! I have to say that it is one of the best investments I have ever made. Where I work we have put it up against many different models of electric erasers and this one always comes out on top. Quiet, strong and has a nice feel, light not bulky and the batteries last at least two months with evryday use.

A great product!!

I had to replace my old Sakura eraser because it simply wore out after 15 years. As an artist who uses pencil before painting over it- I use the Sakura to make changes. This little eraser removes pencil with ease. (I recommend too that before you establish a pencil drawing- try not to break the surface of the paper. If you do the eraser will get rid of the pencil lines but the indentation still remains- I call them "ghost lines"). After I have adjusted the drawing out comes the Sakura and it cleans up the drawing with efficiency and ease.

If you happen to store it for more than a month at a time I suggest removing the batteries so they don't corrode and hurt the contacts.

The eraser refills are white for graphite and light blue for pen. I have used the white refills with success in lightening areas that I have airbrushed with watercolor or gouache. The battery life is quite good and the refills will wear down on big projects so I always have an extra box on hand.

I have not tried other erasers- no need to as I am so happy with the Sakura. It is compact and doesn't tire the hand at all. It is durable too. It can be dropped and survive (although I treat it gently). If the contacts get dirty simply clean them with a pencil eraser (on the end of a pencil). If you are looking for an eraser that has superb control I highly recommend the Sakura.

I am a professional artist who uses this eraser nearly every single day of my life. I'm an illustrator and comic book artist who considers this the PERFECT solution for getting rid of all those "ghost lines" left behind by your kneaded eraser or magicrub, (which I use during the early stages of the drawing). It runs for a VERY long time on only 2 AAA batters, and REALLY packs a punch. You could erase every single line on an entire penciled page, and still have enough battery power left over for several more days (mind you, I use it on a regular basis). It is very accurate, and will allow you to get rid of any lines you want to without invading onto the lines you do want to keep. It is also gentle enough not to damage either sketchbook paper or bristol (from my experience). I've tried other electric erasers over the years, and NOTHING compares. The cheaper ones don't actually do squat and are a complete waste of cash, and the mores expensive ones are way too bulky and heavy for anyone who isn't an architect (I mean, who really wants to have to plug in a giant eraser for a sketch?). This eraser is small and light, but wonderfully balanced, and it is easy to quickly transition between using a pencil, switching to the eraser (very instinctual design), and back again. All of my drawing artist friends have now purchased their own after coveting mine, and they all couldn't be happier. If you're even thinking about buying an electric eraser, take it from a veteran, and BUY THIS ONE!!!!

I already owned a Staedtler electric eraser but I read an interview with an artist I admire who highly recommended the Sakura. He has used his for years and has never had a problem with it. It cost about twice what the Staedtler cost and as far as weight and feel they are similar. Both feel well constructed and fit my hand well. The Sakura's body is slightly longer. The real difference is in the power. The Sakura removes the heaviest lines and tones quickly and easily with one pass compared to several passes with the Staedtler model. Although both units make about the same amount of noise the Sakura just feels more powerful and seems to rotate at a higher RPM. I bought four boxes of eraser refills thinking they would last indefinitely but found out I can rip through a half dozen of them in one sitting depending on how much "sketching" I am doing. The refills are about half as long as the Staedtler refills which kind of bothers me. The collar that holds the eraser is much tighter on the Sakura and is a little difficult to get in and out at first but after a little use it "loosened" up enough that it didn't require as much effort to change erasers. The Sakura arrived with a replacement collar and a few eraser refills for pencil and ink. I haven't tried the ink erasers yet so I can't say much about them. The Sakura has been in heavy use for over a week and I haven't needed to change the batteries yet (two "AA" included with the kit). I change batteries in the Staedtler about once a month so hopefully battery life is comparable between the two. I still keep the Staedtler handy for when I want to pull out some gray scale highlights but when I want to remove all the pencil from an area the Sakura is unbeatable.Read more ›
