I am a woodworker and I like good tools (most of my wood tools are Bosch, Milwaukee or Jet). I had a Craftsman 250 "Made in USA" mechanics tool set that I really disliked from the beginning. I bought Craftsman because that's what my dad had, and even though I didn't like it when I bought it, I kept it because it was the last "made in USA" mechanics set they made.

The last straw with the Craftsman, other than the poor fit and finish, was the 36 tooth design for the ratchets. I was servicing my Ariens snow thrower and had a devil of a time removing the 8 bolts so I could grease the gears (because there wasn't a lot of room to swing the ratchet and the 36 tooth design required approx 15 degrees of swing arc). I was going to buy a Lowes Kobalt set, but (1) I'm not a big fan of Kobalt and (2) their similar sets were a mix of 6 and 12 point sockets. I have a Tekton torque wrench, and saw this set on amazon, so I sold the Craftsman set and bough both this set and the 13001 1/4 drive set. It is EXACTLY what I needed. Let me points out the pros:

1. Excellent fit and finish - all the sockets and the ratchet is beautifully finished in chrome. No pits, no places where the chrome was thinly/thickly applied. They feel good to touch.

2. The ratchet feels and sounds great. There's no other way to say it but some tools just feel good in your hands. These feel great.

3. All the sockets at 6 point. Why do manufacturers sell 12 point sockets? The only purpose of 12 point sockets, in my opinion, are to strip bolts!

4. The case is hard core - not flimsy at all.

5. Every socket comes in both shallow and deep socket.

6. The 3" and 6" adapters are nice add ons.

Really Like this set. I am a farmer and its a requirement to have tools in the truck at almost all times. I bought it as part of a replacement for a large Craftsman case I have.The problem I was having was every time I picked up the case I would dump all of the sockets and end up spending more time searching for sockets than getting the job done. I have nicer Snap-On Mac and Cornwell tools at home that I don't like taking out in the field. I have no problem trusting this set to get the job done.

Pros The sockets on top of the case snap in and you can't dump the sockets in this case. The sockets on top are all fractional and on bottom are all metric. A lot of kits put them side by side . Kind of a nice detail. The ratchet looks well built. Has screws instead of snap rings. The sockets are defiantly at least the same quality as craftsman. And the thing that is really great is that this set doesn't start with some odd size you'never use, includes 18mm which I often find missing from sets, and most of all they didn't bloat the box full of bits and pieces you'll never use.

Con. The one bad thing I found was that the case lacks a handle, but not a big deal.

I bought this socket set a little over a month ago. In that time I've used the set 4 or 5 times, and I could not be more pleased with it.

-First, the case that it comes with feels super solid. When you feel it in person, you can tell that it will stand up to some use and abuse. This is especially great for a person like me -- who keeps the set in my trunk, "just in case". The case is organized with the standard sized sockets on the top portion of the case, and the metric sockets on the bottom. This makes finding the right size super fast.

-The ratchet couldn't feel better. I grew up using my dad's Craftsman ratchets -- and this one blows my dad's ratchets out of the water. I can tell that this is the first time I used such a finely toothed ratchet wrench. This will pay off when you're in those small/hard-to-reach places in newer cars. Also, the wrench holds the sockets on until you hit the release button on top. Maybe that's the way all ratchets are supposed to be -- but I was not used to it.

-The sockets and accessories are great. I like that this set does not skip any sizes. I also like how they designed the sockets to grip the "sides" of bolts/nuts as opposed to the sharp corners. They included a 3" and a 6" extension as well as a universal joint. These items truly add to the feel of the set being "complete". It's awesome that they included TWO different extensions (and the universal joint) because these items are never found in these kind of socket sets. The one and only con would have to be mentioned here -- for an unbiased review. Two of the sockets have a slight blemish in the chrome plating. These blemishes are purely cosmetic. This is a very complete set, or at least the largest set I have ever had. I also appreciate the case which is laid out a little better than my last one with much more secure closures.

I don't think that there is any more I could ask for in this set or any pieces that I'm going to think, "boy I wish it had this piece" because I am pretty sure it's already here. Very happy with this set!
