Lovely shoe for moderate activity and swimming!

I've been wearing "good shoes" since my 20s, and I'm now in my late 40s. I wear a 40 in Birkenstock, a 41 in Dansko, a 9.5 in Earth, and I have medium width feet, narrow heels and a moderately high instep. I used to be able to walk for miles in my Birks, and even hike in them. As I've gotten older, I find that my feet have less and less flexibility in this area. I've had to start working in other types of shoes in order to do things like walk.

I purchased these to allow me to do light hiking and exercise walking in the Pacific Northwest, and go swimming on the fly when needed. When I want a more "aerated" shoe, I fall back to my Keens, but if I need to walk a mile or more, these are the shoes I use. There has been no break in time at all because of all the comfy neoprene. There is nothing that cuts into my foot anywhere. The vibram sole is soft and comfortable, bends flexibly and is a moderate support shoe. Some have reviewed and stated the soles were too thin and that they felt things through the shoe--I haven't had that experience.

I tried on a 10 and 9.5--because I don't have wide feet, the 9.5 worked perfectly. With the 10 I had too much room in the toe box.

I'm at an age where I couldn't use these as all day hiking shoes, but for a mile or two, with some swimming tossed in, or just a 1 mile exercise walk, these work just fine. Longer than that and I would need to wear more supportive shoes (but then I'm older).

When your feet get over size 9, it's hard for a shoe to make them look small, but these Merrell's manage to do just that!

they were so awesome I pretty much worse them EVERY DAY

I bought these for Costa Rica - I really just wanted to wear them for Canyoneering and maybe one other water related activity. Ok so...they were so awesome I pretty much worse them EVERY DAY. They fit perfectly, dried quickly even though everything was wet and humid (my clothing for sure did NOT haha) and they are a really good looking pair of shoes. Totally stoked. The end. :)

These shoes run narrow. I developed blisters on both little toes when wearing without socks. Had to moleskin both toes in order to wear them. They were the only shoes I took on a trip and had not worn them before leaving. I have always had good luck with the fit of Merrell shoes until these so I took a chance on bringing them as my only pair to save packing space. Not a smart move. Also, the sole is too thin for a hiking sandal. I could feel pebbles beneath my feet. I'm returning them and am disappointed to have to do this. They sounded great but did not work for me.

I've only worn these once for a 2.5 hour canoe trip, but they performed well and were comfortable. I have narrow feet and the width was perfect for me. Some fine gravel did enter through the mesh and became caught in the shoe. I would have to test them more rigorously to provide better feedback, but overall, I was very satisfied with the performance of these shoes.

if only these had closed heels

I love these sandals, but would love them even more if they had closed heels, They are super comfortable with or without socks, but seem to have a built in vaccuum for attracting small stones, etc. even when walking on concrete. That said, the open heel increases their flexibility. Size runs normal. The red ones are a dark crimson. Very pretty and "classy". I got another pair in pink which are really almost fuscia. Very cheerful. Of all the different walking sandals I have tried (Keen, Ahna and Merrell), these are definitely the tops!

These shoes are super awesome for hiking. Our hiking trails have a lot of cricks that need crossed and these are comfortable to use with no socks even while hiking 6+ miles. I love the color and look of them as well.

Great hiking shoes/boots!
