This is a powerful laser measuring device and allows you quickly and easily measure the area of a home, office or workspace. The neat thing about it is that you can do it by yourself without any help and measure distances of up to 229 feet. If you are a construction worker, estimator, insurance agent or a realtor this is an ideal tool for your work. It is even great for use by home owners or anyone that is doing work on remodeling homes for resell to estimate materials needed for the refurbishment project.

I became familiar with this technology as I had a flooded basement last year and both the contractor refurbishment estimator and the insurance estimator used this type of device to quickly measure the 5 large rooms in my basement and the 5 closets. You don't need two people to use a 100 foot tape measure or even a calculator. This one device will measure rooms up to 229 feet long with an accuracy of 1/24th of an inch. It can even add and subtract measurements. Measure two sides of a right triangle and it will calculate the hypotenuse automatically using the Pythagorean Theorem.

The unit operates on two AAA batteries that come in the box. A set of batteries will make 15,000 measurements. Using one of these devices is so much faster than using a tape measure that you will not believe the difference. The unit is programmable in which units of measure that you would like to use. It can read out in feet to two decimal points, it will measure in feet and inches including fractions of an inch, it will measure in inches with a decimal point, it will measure in inches with fractions of an inch, it will measure in meters with up to 3 decimal places or round up to meters with two decimal places.Read more ›

Outstanding product that is full of features for the money. I was presently surprised by features offered in the Fonesco/Tuirel laser distance meter. I had previously considered purchasing another more expensive laser distance meter by BOSCH, but when I compared the features provided by the Fonesco meter and the price it was an easy decision to purchase the Fonesco. This meter has all the features that you could want from distance meter, including flexible units display, back-lite display, simple straight line measurement, continuous measurement for maximums and minimums, addition and subtraction capability, volume measurement measurement/calculation, Pythagorean functions for finding the distance of triangular sides, convenient build-in bubble levels to ensure level and true measurements, storage for 20 measurements, and a setting for measuring from the front, middle, or back of the meter.

The back-light works great to fully illuminate the display. One additional feature that would be helpful is a back-light for the levels - The bubble levels are very useful, but can be difficult to see in low-level light situations. An added electronic inclinometer in the display would even be better. However, this detracts very little from the overall value of this meter.

The meter is light-weigh and fits snugly in the handy carrying pouch, which can be Velcroed onto your belt without actually having to remove your belt. The outside edges of the blue case are covered with a non-slip black rubber layer that makes it easy to hold on to the meter.

The meter is very fast in returning a measurement and the accuracy is excellent for most applications.

Takes some understanding but this thing is surprisingly accurate. I was depressed that the measurements were about 5 inches off every time and then I realized that the strartup baseline is meant to be taken from the back of the device instead of the front. Hitting the reference button changes where the dimensions are based. This helps if you want to take a measurement from the back of the device while holding it against a wall or not.

The area function is pretty cool but more of a gee whiz function in my mind. The addition and subtraction functions could be handy but I can't even think of a reason to use the triangle function. The min/max feature can be handy if you're struggling to hold steady on a far away target if you know about where it is because you can discard the measurements you know are wrong and keep the ones that are about where you think they are.

As many have pointed out, it's not great in the sunlight. Not only from the perspective that you can't see the red dot but it also messes up the sensor and you get errors. However, at night time or dusk, you can accurately get measurements over 300 feet if you have a steady hand or a stationary object to rest it on.

I have to say, every measurement that I've taken with this instrument, corresponds exactly with the tape measurements. Measuring Sq. feet, and volume with this instrument is a snap, I'm still playing with the triangulation part of it, a feature that I doubt I'll ever use. After looking at a review from one of the other buyers, who also posted a video explaining the functions of this meter, I decided to see for myself, and this meter does everything that is advertised. I would recommend this to anyone who frequently measures distances, and areas, as well as volume, no need to find someone to hold the other end of the tape.
