I intend to give you a long-term report but I hope my video is at least helpful. For now, here are some thoughts on the collar thus far:

The collar feels about as heavy as most collars of this type, but still very light that doesn't cause any problems for the dog. My dog is perfectly used to wearing them and this collar seemed uneventful for him. The interface is quite easy to use (I figured it out without even havign to read the manual, although I did to ensure I understood exactly how it functions). There are 0-9 modes.. 0 mode is training mode, and the other levels are the strength of the static. Training mode is used when you are acclimating your dog to wearing the new device. It only beeps and vibrates, in case the dog triggers it by accident. Having lots of experience with collars, I've found that most of the time, it takes just beeping to train the dog. But over time they get conditioned and will 'test' the device, when stronger correction might be needed. That's where the other modes, 1 thru 9 comes in. The higher the mode the stronger the shock. 1 is mild and 9 is described int he manual as "super strong".

Unlike other collars that increase the correction strength, this one does not. This is actually a good thing. I've owned past collars where the false positives cause the correction to be much stronger than it should, which punish the dog for no reason. I much rather would have more control over the exact strength of the correction. Lastly, there is a "Free bark" duration. It allows the dog to bark, and only after a certain time will kick in. This is the preferred logic. You never should try to shut your dog up completely (that would be cruel in my opinion). But you do want to keep them from barking incessantly.

The ScoutBark does not try to completely stop barking as much as limit its duration to 5 seconds or less. Some dogs will bark and bark and bark. While it's going on 5 seconds can seem like a long time, but it's a lot shorter than the multi-minute bark sessions we'd been experiencing with this dog.

The ScoutBark 100 can work, but must be used CONSISTENTLY. Don't expect an instant result: it could take days or longer to become effective.

How long will it take to become effective? That varies from dog to dog. Like people, dogs learn differently and at different rates. They also have different sensitivities/response to the beep/shock Pavlovian response training. Some dogs may not learn the correct association and ScoutBark will leave everyone miserable.

I must confess to mixed feelings about a shock based training system. Other methods of bark training have not worked with this dog, so this is a last resort.

In the box are the collar with medium studs and CR2450 button battery pre-installed, a contact stud wrench, two alternate stud sets for shot and long haired dogs, and a good instruction manual. The instructions are very good and emphasize consistency.

Some cautions about use are:
+ Do not leave the collar on for more than half a day.
+ Trim the nylon collar after fitting (for safety)
+ The collar does not respond until the dog has been barking for more than 5 seconds (which seems a long time while the dog bark).
+ The collar beeps before shocking through the contacts.
+ If your dog has very short or very long hair, change the contact studs with a provided alternate set.

The preinstalled medium contacts were fine for this medium hair length dog.

So I have used bark collars before on past rescues, and just like this collar they work as long as the collar is actually on the dog. I have a 10 lb Yorki Poo- The manual says this collar works best for dogs 15 lbs and over, my little Butch has been barking non stop at nothing for the last year and I am pretty clever, I wanted to see if this would work for him.

So the collar itself is obviously too big for a smaller dog. It took two laps around his neck, but it still fit him fine and the device was snug under his chin. I started with level 1, and that is all I needed. The warning tones were enough to confuse him but the gentle vibration did stop him after the warnings.. Here is the problem though. He is a SMART boy.. He didn't bark all day, even when people walked up to our bush in which usually he goes into a full fit of rage and barking terror. He cried a little when people approached and he wanted to bark but he knew the collar was on and didn't.

The minute I took the collar off he started barking again. The little bugger. He was like you dumb human ha ha. So in conclusion this is great tool. I will use it as it gives my neighbors piece of mind and I don't like kenneling my boys all the time when working at home and the barking gets out of control. But I don't feel comfortable leaving it on when I am not home ( what if it short circuits, I guess I could leave it off but he would probably start barking without the warning tones ). My boy is really too smart for this collar, but it does work when I am home and its on but can't see it working to eliminate barking without the collar on...
