    I'm a big fan of Montrail shoes, but this one is not that good. The heel is too high and feels weird when running. Even when the shoelaces are tightened well, my feet slide towards the front. I wish the Masochist II were still available.

    May be a great shoe, but definitely not anything like the Mountain Masochist II. The toe cap is much softer therefore much less protection. The fit is much narrower and overall a tighter fit if not a bit short. I sent them back and sticking with my IIs.

    I normally wear a size 11, had to return my first pair of these for an 11.5. Fit is great now, just breaking in and don't have a review of performance yet. *Update. Love the way they feel on my feet, the only thing I don't understand is hoe big the toe of the shoe is. It fits me perfect in the heel, arch and ball of my feet but there is just a LOT of shoe left in the toe.

    * Update on performance & feel. I ran my first trail race in these this weekend and they felt incredible! I have gotten used to having more shoe in the toe. I was worried about tripping, but no problems.

    I have not owned a pair of this brand of shoes before and bought this pair to see what I thought of them. I can not complete that part of my test until I start to wear them. I keep a running supply of shoes to make sure I never run out. That usually put their "in service date" into the future by 18 to 24 months.

    They're good trail shoes, but a bit too stiff for me. I think they're intended for really rough trails. If you run run through that kind of country, you'll like them more than I do.
