So, like the inner child in me that loved Legos, I had to pick up the newest Lego game: Lego Avengers. Even though there's a similar game released over a year ago by the name Lego Marvel, this iteration visits familiar territory and adds some more interesting stuff.

Gameplay:
Expect to play the same way you did before. There are some new moves (I think they're called Avenger Moves) where you tag team with another character to do a big move. It's really nice to see when it's done and it's also very easy to pull off. The game is not difficult at all (provided you ignore the still horrible flying controls and vehicle driving) and like other games in the past, you can pick up and play locally with a friend...or not.

Presentation:
Graphically, I don't think it's anything special. It's the same as it was before. I really like, however, that they've based it off some of the more recent Marvel films. The audio is straight from the movies, with every character sounding like their movie counterpart. Some of the more adult jokes either disappear or get worked into a Lego, kid-friendly environment. It's really funny sometimes to see how they come up with these things as you play. I think the camera follows you a bit better in Free Play in Lego Marvel, but that's just me.

Everything else:
In game, there's over 100 different characters from Marvel, some that have never been in the Lego Marvel game before. While it is nice, it can be a bit frustrating to unlock some of the ones you may like to play. Granted, they are there for the taking. Just like before, Red Bricks can be collected and used to unlock different features during gameplay. Yes, you can still create your own character. My daughter and I were very excited for this game. The beginning levels were great and then we got to the free play section. Unfortunately we both had a very hard time with the map key at the corner of the screen. With Lego Superheros and Lego Jurassic Park, when you did a mission it would help lead you. The way this game leads you is tricky in that it only shows in dots on the bottom circle key. It was more frustrating then fun for my 9 year old.

Giving this 3 stars when comparing to some of the other Lego games out there.

My Son and I have played Lego Marvel for many hours and loved it. From all the lego games out there (and we have pretty much all of them) the Original Avengers game was our favorite. We had pretty much maxed everything out and still really enjoyed going back and playing the missions and exploring the world over and over again. So when the new Marvel Avengers was announced just in time for my Son's birthday, we were super happy.

However, I find that the following negatives in comparison to the original game:
- it is definitely not as fluid. It seems like a lot of start and stop for story additions
- the stories in themselves are not that great
- when playing in 2 player mode, there are situations where you can not see what is happening on the edge of the screen (sometimes a character actually disappears from the screen) - this is even more annoying in dynamic screen mode but even true in the vertical split screen as well
- flying style has changed, which makes it a little more difficult to pick up
- graphically, the character selection is worse quality so difficult trying to find characters that you want
- jumping and the edge of objects has changed. I have fallen off multiple objects as it is difficult to judge edge of the objects and aligning with the next rope you need to jump to

I hope many of these are going to be corrected in patches

The following positives
- reasonable addition to the marvel story line. Nice to play some new missions
- Some of the co-op moves are good
- quirky humor of the lego genre still there, so lots of laughs

Uncertainties
- DLC ??? Will have to wait and see what they add.

Summary - If you have not already, but the first Avengers game. Much cheaper alot of fun. Wait for this one to drop in price and then maybe the DLC will be easier to justify.

This is the first Lego game to kind of disappoint me. I bought it for my nephew, but I played through it once to make sure he wouldn't have too much trouble with it. There are definitely some strange design choices in this game that are unfortunate changes to a model that seemed to be already be working pretty well. While Tt Games did a fine job of covering several of the Marvel films in a pretty creative manner, it demonstrated to me that they really seem to shine more when they are telling their own original stories (a.k.a., the Lego Marvel, Lego Batman, etc.). Furthermore, this game seems to suffer from bugs and overall janky-ness more than any other title of theirs that I've played. I hope a lot of it will be fixed with future patches.

The game is pretty good. Lots of levels, Better graphics than the 1st, worse character selection; The only thing I don't like is while in 2 player, while using iron man, the whole screen adjusts to one player so the other player cannot continue playing until the proper iron man character is chosen. Also, the map is off. another thing, if in free play multi player good luck finding the hidden things because the other player may drag you into a cinematic scene continuing the level and you cannot go back after this happens.
