This is an excellent solid state disk from a good company (which I did not realize is part of Toshiba now). The first thing you'll notice is the excellent build quality - it feels like a solid block of metal. I edit a lot of video and usually slide my SSDs into a thunderbolt reader, meaning they are typically not kept in enclosures. My drives get dropped, knocked around, and relatively beat up over time. I think this one will hold up very well given the robustness of the build. Just note that it does not work with the Blackmagic Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 that I use for recording.

Solid state disks like this offer tremendous performance advantages over traditional hard drives. Although they cost more per gigabyte the difference they can make in a PC (even older ones) is remarkable and very noticeable. The reason is that they don't have the latency that traditional drives have, because every block of data is immediately accessible to the application requesting it. Spinning drives, because they spin, have to wait for the platter to work its way around before it can present data to the application.

This drive performs as well as many others out there at this price point. It completely maxes out my thunderbolt docks on performance tests, transferring over 350 megabytes per second in both writes and reads. It's the fasted drive I'm currently using.

It runs an older solid state disk chipset called Barefoot 3, which is a proven and reliable platform. But, as a very detailed review on Anandtech points out, that maturity comes at the expense of performance consistency on the 480GB and 960GB drives. While most users may not notice a slight drop off in speed, power users might see that on their benchmarks as Anandtech has found.Read more ›

The performance of these these drives are maxing out the network speed. Bought these for work in our desktops and laptops. The external construction is rock solid, I highly doubt they would break if you dropped one. Unless OCZ screws up, I will continue to buy these. Marking them with a 5 year warranty just speaks that they trust them. These drives are the slim ones so they fit in the current laptops now.

AS Benchmark Test in a nutshell:
Read: 476 MB/s
Write: 454 MB/s
Acc Time Read: 0.065ms
Acc Time Write: 0.050ms

This OCZ Storage Solution features reliability and great performance besides offering a great storage solution. The reliability has to do with power failure, in case you have a totally system power loss. We had severe thundershowers and lightning in our area and it was up and running in no time at all. I did not realize at first that Toshiba built in their technology in every drive and it boots up fast and is also very responsive.It is also bundled with a desktop adaptor and an Acorns True image cloning software which helps to transfer data from your old hard drive. We have an older computer and it has made quite a difference because every piece of data is immediately accessible. This is the fastest drive I have come across so far! My Toshiba was beginning to slow down but with this the start up it is considerably faster. The installation was easy , quick and the speed improved dramatically. Also, true to OCZ products, it has a 5 year warranty. Anyone who is looking for a SSD solution, this is well worth the money!

This new larger and faster SSD arrived at just the right time for me. The 128GB Crucial M4 SSD I installed in my Acer AR3700 desk PC two years ago had just run out of room, and I was just beginning to notice enough slowdowns in apps like Photoshop Elements 13 that I feared I might finally have to consider upgrading my 5 year old PC.

To the rescue comes this larger capacity and higher speed OCZ Vector 180 SSD. First, the best news of all is that it's a simple drop-in replacement for the previous SSD. Having done that before, I knew how to do it again, and already had everything necessary on hand. (Key thing needed is an Anker® USB 3.0 to SATA 3ft Converter Adapter Cable for 2.5 inch/3.5 inch Hard Drive Disk HDD and SSD, Power Adapter included.) One nice touch is that this SSD comes with a full version of Acronis True Image 2014, rather than the trial version of an older edition I got last time. (That software is necessary for cloning the old drive onto the new drive for a painless complete upgrade, and is also an excellent tool for regular backups.)

The peppier Windows startup was immediately noticeable after the upgrade, born out by Windows Experience upping its disk data transfer rate from 7.7 to 7.8. According to the specs for the two drives, the improvements are as follows:
read speed unchanged at 500MB/S
write speed almost tripled, up to 530MB/S from 175MB/S
I/O read operations more than doubled, up to 95,000/S from 45,000/S
I/O write operations almost tripled, up to 90,000/S from 35,000/S
The new warranty is also better, up to 5 years from 3 years.Read more ›
