Let me be clear that this isn’t an everyday, large surface vacuum. If that’s what you’re looking for, you will be disappointed with this. Rather it’s meant to specialize in all those difficult to clean areas – and its bevy of attachments certainly does the trick. Take the crevice tool and extended wand that reach up and curve and bend to fit inside lights, the top of high book cases and shelves, and so on. What else does that? But my favorite attachments of all are the ceiling fan tool and the floor tool.

My kitchen ceiling fan was far dirtier than I’d ever care to admit because before this it was such a difficult task to clean it. But with the combination of dusting along with the suction of the vacuum, layers of dust peeled right off. You literally put each ceiling blade right through the pad attachment so it’s cleaning both the top and bottom at once. Actually, it was kind of a fun process. You may even be able to persuade teens to help with cleaning for the sheer novelty of it!

Also the floor tool was exactly what I’ve been searching for. Sure, you can use a dust mop or Swiffer on hard floors, but again it’s that combination of a dust mop quality you get from the microfiber pad along with the suction of the vacuum that actually picks dust and debris up rather than just pushing it around the floor or getting stuck in the pad to later fall back out in this room or the next room you carry it into. After using it in my office for only three minutes the floors shined like they’d just been washed. It’s marvelous. I haven’t tried the stair/upholstery tool yet or to clean out the car, but I’m excited to try them both out, and for just the ceiling fan and hard floor attachments alone it’s worth the purchase.Read more ›

My first impression of the Dirt Devil 360° was that it was the coolest vacuum I've ever seen! After using it for a while, I still think it has a lot going for it, but there are significant shortcomings.

The main unit is relatively light and using the myriad of attachments is simple. The flexibility of this vacuum is incredible, with the ability to extend and twist however you like. With that said, the most useful attachment is stored right in the unit. It creates a fine point that is perfect for getting into narrow places and corners. I like to use it for the edges of the room, trim, and furniture crevices that the big vacuum misses. It is also perfect for spider webs.

The other attachment that gets a lot of use is the upholstery cleaner. It is powered and does a nice job, with a head that isn't too big to get around most corners. Unfortunately, it doesn't lock in place and often pops to the side when I don't want it to, requiring me to manually line it up with my other hand.

The big fluffy attachments are where this goes downhill. The suction just sort of sits near the base and doesn't reach very far, so it is basically like using a very heavy and awkward manual duster. The fan cleaner is what I was most looking forward to, but it is practically useless. It is easier to just use a standard attachment to get the dust.

The base of the unit, which is opened to get to the washable filter, fell off many times and had to be put back together. It finally fell apart when I wasn't watching and I didn't see where the spring went. So, I may end up having to tape it shut. The tiny screws that hold the tab in place that keeps it shut aren't up to the job.

When I looked at the pictures on the product page, what I wanted to know right off the bat was whether the floor tool is only for hard floors, or can also be used on carpeting. The answer is that it's not impossible to use the floor tool for carpeting, if you remove the dry mop cover, but there is no powered beater bar, so it'll just pick up what it can by suction alone.

The upholstery/stair attachment does have a powered beater bar, and you can attach it to the end of the extension pole, but (1) it will only be powered by suction, since there is no electrical connection at the end of the extension pole and (2) that upholstery/stair attachment is small, so you'd hardly want to use it to vacuum more than a small area of carpet. As a practical matter, then, this vacuum can't be your only vacuum if your house has carpeting or rugs. In any case, the dust container cup on this vacuum is tiny, so you won't be using it to do a big job.

But now I'll focus on what this vacuum is good for. That upholstery/stair attachment is excellent when you have it attached to the vacuum body, so that the brush is powered. It allows me to quickly and easily clean up the dog hair and dust on the furniture, and small areas of carpeting where the dog hangs out. It's a lot easier to do this every day with this small, light vacuum than it is to haul out the big machine.

If I put on the extension pole, I have three attachments I can use. The one I use most often is the floor attachment. It cleans up my hard floor surfaces and it's a low enough profile that it can get under furniture where my upright can't reach.
