Directions

Galen, my Service Dog in Training is a very picky eater, which is pretty typical to shepherds. An 8-month-old Shiloh Shepherd, he also has a rather sensitive stomach. As such, it is difficult to find foods he can both tolerate and will eat. While he is still a puppy, he is now old enough to transition to some adult foods, as his growth has begun to slow and his metabolism can handle any calcium excesses other foods may have.

While I can't say Galen is a fanatic for this fish and sweet potato food, it does appear to be one of the few foods that Galen will both eat and agrees with him. Because of his sensitivity, his diet is now mostly seafood, his primary food being a salmon based grain free limited ingredient diet by Canidae. Secondarily, he gets Nutro Limited Ingredient Diet Potato and Kangaroo formula, which I discovered he loved and tolerated well when we tried it for review purposes a while back. Now we have a wet food he likes in addition to the Tripett Green Beef Tripe he gets (tripe contains enzymes that aid digestion).

The Nutro fish and sweet potato appears to be reasonably nutritious, and is gentle on digestion. The sweet potato provides the bulk needed for stools that are of a firm, healthy consistency. In all, I'm quite pleased with a number of Nutro's recent additions, and this is no exception.

My dog has tried many products by Nutro - wet and dry dog food and treats. He always likes the way they taste. I like the way they have quality ingredients. This wet dog food is no exception to the previous great products. It's hard to tell if my dog likes some wet dog food better than others, as he scarfs them all down. I've never seen him turn his nose up to wet food. There are certain things he won't eat (I accidently dropped mushrooms and onions on the floor so that's how I found his Kryptonite). That being said he does sometimes pick through some food to get to others, even though he eats it all eventually. That's how I can tell his favorite parts.

I decided to do a taste test. I put this and another quality wet food in side by side bowls to see which he would go to first. As you can see from the video, even though he went to the other food first, he quickly switched to Nutro. At first I thought it was because he got a better whiff of the Nutro later and decided he preferred it. However, once I watched the video, I realized it was a different story. I said no to him moving forward too soon because I wanted him to sit and then go to the bowls. I think he thought I was saying no to going to the Nutro side first because that is where he was heading first as I put the food down. So I think it was Nutro all the way so much so that he only observed the letter of the law - hey mom technically I did what you said. I went to the other side first. I'm interested to see what other people think after watching the video. He did eat both bowls of food eventually.

Our little seven year old puppy started becoming a picky eater as she got older. It seemed that the food was too hard for her to eat or she just didn't want it so after reading the reviews we decided to give this one a try. Our dog is a service dog and has been trained for over six years. We have been giving it to our dog for about two weeks now and she recently started pooping in the house which hasn't happened in over SIX YEARS we couldn't believe it but we didn't think it was the food so we brought her to our climbing gym (she goes here all the time!) and she pooped in the middle of the matts, we were shocked! She has never pooped in an indoor public place EVER and being a service dog it just made the situation worse. So, we decided to see what was up.
Turns out it was the food. Super disappointed we loved that she was actually eating but we're switching to something that the vet suggested.

Received the package of 24 tightly packed into a cardboard box within the larger mailed box. None of the containers seemed compromised. This wet food has a "stew" consistency with liquid, chunks of beef, carrots and peas. I specifically purchased this type of wet food because my beagle puppy seems to prefer the more runny stew like food to the thicker paste like wet foods that are available. In addition, this is specifically made for puppies which was recommended by my vet. The containers are small so beware of that since they are not cheap. Pricing on here is about similar to pricing at the local pet store but much more convenient. Highly recommend!

We have been using this brand as a substitute for the Variety Food brand of wet dog food because of price and availability. The only difference in this from others is that it comes out in cubed chunks instead of a homogenized pate' style of wet dog food. But, our four dogs love it when we mix it with their dry chow anyway. It has the same aroma, which smells good, and has a little gravy and veggies. So, they are in hog heaven when mixed with the dry chow.
