Before purchasing this safe I read several of the reviews already posted. I highly recommend viewing Adam Wood's review and accompanying video. I'm not as concerned as Adam about how safe the safe is from potential thieves but rather keeping my grandsons away from my firearm. I bolted the safe to a wall but I didn't use the enclosed drywall mollies but rather drilled additional holes in the rear of the safe to line-up with wall studs. It's a great safe to secure your firearm and ammo and have the peace of mind knowing that the visiting youngsters are out off harms way.It
easy to use, and its space is enough big. I like Amazon's package, and it looks nice and safe to shipping. Thanks Amazon give me a good choice for that!

Go ahead and buy it. I researched and compared many different similar safes and options. I settled on this because of my past positive experience with Amazon and the unbeatable price point. I received and installed this yesterday, and I must say I am quite pleased. I needed something that would give me quick access when needed, yet keep unauthorized fingers off of my home defense handgun. This safe is bigger than I thought it was. It will hold more than one handgun along with ammo and other things. I have it bolted inside of a large solid wood wardrobe. While not completely impervious, it would take some time and considerable effort for a burgular to compromise it. Such is the case for pretty much any safe. You may shop around all you want. You will not find anything even closely comparable for this price. This is so cheap that I might buy a few more to put in other locations around the house. Visitors and kids don't stand a chance. I went to Home Depot and bought some heavy duty bolts, drilled holes in the solid wood wardrobe backing and fixed shelf, and securely bolted it down. It is basically part of the wardrobe now. They way I have it setup, a burgular would first have to destroy the wardrobe, and then try to compromise the safe. As with nearly all of my well researched purchases, this is a good one. If you are in the market for something similar, go ahead and pull the trigger. Buy it. You won't be disappointed. The keypad is not lighted, so you will want to keep a small flashlight close buy in case you need to access it in the dark. The keypad beeps when you press a button. I don't know yet if then can be disabled. Therefore, a potential burgular may hear you pressing buttons. It may be the last thing they hear though, because this safe can be accessed very quickly.

Overall I would have given this safe a 5 star rating except for one oversight in the manual. It tells you how to program in you access code but fails to tell you one important step when trying to open it. The manual tells you to press the reset button inside the door, you should hear two beeps, then program in your number and press the pound (#) sign. Then it states that before you close the door (I left out the part where you opened it with the key first), enter you security code. Well if you do exactly as stated it will never open. One has to enter the # after the security code is entered. Being the dumb engineer that I am, I followed the instructions literally. So when I couldn't get it open I though it was defective and requested an exchange. No problem, got the exchange approved and a free shipping label. So while I was repacking the safe I punched in the code I had previously entered and for some unknown reason I hit the # key. Viola! It unlocked. I did it a couple of times and it worked. Oh crap, how do you cancel an exchange? I tried entering an order cancellation and now have a second return label from Amazon. This has turned into a real goat rope all because the manual didn't state that the # must be entered after the security code is entered. One other thing, all of these safes (as far as I can tell) come with the same master security code. You should change it. The manual does tell you how to enter a new master code but does not indicate that you have to enter the # sign after you enter a new master code. So after searching for several minutes, I finally found a way to contact someone by email regarding returns/cancellations. It wasn't obvious. Just hoping I don't end up with another safe or being charged for not returning the one I already have.

As to the safe itself.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
PACKAGE
The safe came in a neutral package that weighed just under 26 lbs; the safe itself is only 19lbs - it was very well packaged, foam corners and everything.

SPACE
The usable inside space is 13 9/16 * 9 5/8 * 7 7/16 (w*h*d), which comes to 0.56 cubic feet, more than Amazon promised! In fact, the volume is slightly higher than that even, because the door sticks in irregularly. On the bottom for example, an item under 2" high could be 8 7/8" deep and still fit. However, there is a doorframe to contend with, and the door only opens to 90 degrees and is then partially in the way because of its thickness. In practise, an iPad goes in without problem, and a very small laptop probably might as well if you removed the one shelf in the middle. But my 14" Thinkpad does not fit through the opening, even diagonally.

BUILD
In short, think "in- room hotel safe". The door is only about 3mm thick, and the material in the back at least seems much thinner still. The front with the knob and keyboard is plastic. The locking bolts seem substantial, so there would likely be some resistance from someone trying to open the safe with force, but it's clearly not meant to be a highly secure vault. More like a disincentive for thieves naturally pressed for time or snoopy houseguests. The safe can be bolted down to the floor or back wall; 4 bolts are included for that purpose.

USAGE
The safe ships locked and without the 4 AA batteries located on the inside that power the keypad, so the first time you need to open it with a physical key. Two keys are provided, and using them is always an option, for example if you forget the code or the batteries die. Once powered (I used Eneloop rechargeables which worked dandy), you can set a code and a master code.
