Ordered this for the living room/kitchen/dinner area of about 24x20 open space, not to really completely cool it but to keep up with the humidity and heat rise that occurs otherwise. For this it works fine, has a very reasonable decibel level and a powerful fan. I'm happy with the engineering of the product itself so far and it does what I expected. My drop of a star is due to the unit arriving with a significant dent in the back of the case, the fin-side bracing partially knocked out of where it should be and fin damage, all of which must have happened during manufacture or boxing up, since there was absolutely no damage to the shipping box or styrofoam packaging, I can't blame the shipper on this one. I don't know if this damage will affect the function over time but, since it works ok now, I guess I'll keep it but LG should be ashamed and it will affect whether I decide to replace all my kitchen appliance with LG units. They clearly need better QC somewhere along the process.

Update after a Cape Cod summer: I'm quite satisfied with the product. It has consistently managed to handle 600 sf of common living/dining/kitchen area quite easily for temperature and I have ended up using the dehumidify setting more frequently as the temperature eases off. Noise level is good, in my opinion, since you can't expect silence from a machine and the impact on my electric bill was better than expected. I'll go five stars if it does it again next year.

My air conditioner saga has finally ended thanks to this unit. I moved into an apartment with an an extra wide window 45" -- and it's the only place in the apartment to put an AC.

Initially to avoid building out the window, I purchased a Haier 10000BTU Portable AC, which was supposed to be quiet -- it was not! Not only was it louder than a train engine, it gives off a lot of heat from the back, so it was inefficient. OK, onto the window units. I then tried the Sharp "Quiet Series" -- which was effective at cooling but very loud, too loud to sleep at night or use even from the other room. Onto the Haier Serenity (6 and 8k BTU) series which require perfect install to be quiet (not an option with my extra wide window). I found the Serenity to have agitating rattling noises from within that build like resonate vibration, and the compressor kicked off after 20 min with the fan still on blowing lukewarm air. Not worth the high price tag unless you have ideal conditions for window install, and a small room that doesn't need much circulation.

Finally LG to the rescue. This unit is relatively quiet -- I can sleep at night without ear plugs (unlike the Sharp). After I secured it very well to my "built out window frame" using plywood, foam and caulk, it is very quiet. Even on it's loudest setting it is quieter than the Sharp "Quiet Series" on the low setting. It effectively cools my space quickly better than any of the three Haiers I tried. It drips quite a lot from the back which tells me it's effective at dehumidifying.

I also appreciate the construction -- it is of solid build quality. Also, the openings in the back are small vents, so not a whole lot of large debris can get in.Read more ›

Solid four stars. We had the upstairs renovated and I didn't know but the contractor had already purchased this AC to be installed in the living room. I'm rather picky (and always looking for a good deal) but I was pleased to see that this AC has a 11.3 EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) which is on the very top end of what you can get in a window AC. The guy who was hired to put it in had removed the drain plug but because this AC is installed on the second story, I didn't notice but I knew something was wrong because it dripped a ton of water out the back onto the walkway. I bought a cheap rubber plug from the local home improvement store and now the slinger fan works as designed and the AC does not drip, plus it cools better.

Pros:
- Feels sturdy, heavier and larger than comparable 10K BTU units
- Fan is fairly quiet
- 11.3 EER
- Draws LESS than the stated 880 watts; my Kill-A-Watt showed it pulling about 750-840 watts with the compressor on @ "F3" (high) fan setting
- Directional vents for air flow work great
- Easy access to air filter

Cons:
- Can get noisy in humid conditions w/ water sloshing around (though this is designed to increase efficiency and cooling, so I'm okay with that)
- Remote control sucks, you need to be fairly close and have to be standing directly in front of the unit (our other Frigidaire window ACs have remotes that work from any angle, within reason)
- While being a pro, this AC being heavier and bigger means you need to install it properly so it won't fall out of the window

All in all, we're satisfied. It's cooling a living room and kitchen, I'm guessing about 700 square feet, plus an office room that has no door.Read more ›
