I have very short, wavy hair and I like to use products like pomade and putty to give it texture and separation without making it stiff. As I have recently discovered, it is difficult to find a pomade or putty that does everything that I want it to do and doesn't cost a fortune - they are either too greasy, too hard/stiff, don't have enough hold, or else they disappear by the end of the day. So far, this Mess Maker power putty has been the best of this type of product that I have tried. It is not greasy or shiny at all and it has the best hold that I have encountered thus far. I rub a good glob of it between my hands until they are evenly coated, then I apply it to my hair after it is dry to create the look that I want (I have not tried this product on damp or wet hair). It starts out creamy, but the longer you have it on your hands, it sort of stiffens/dries ever so slightly and I think this is the key to why it has such great hold. My hair retains its texture throughout the day and I can tell by touching it that there is still product in my hair at the end of the day, yet my hair doesn't look like it has anything in it. It works best if you are going for a deliberately messy, unstructured look. The texture is creamy, but light and easy to manipulate, the color is pale purple, and it smells great, kind of like citrus.

I am a devoted LOreal Studio Line Overworked Hair Putty guy, but Amazon increased their price on that product to the point where I figured I had to try an alternative and I ended up purchasing this.

This putty is much more liquidy than the LOreal stuff and therefor requires a bit more per application, but it comes at 3 oz to LOreals 1.7 oz so that is a wash if they were sold for the same price.

What I love about the LOreal putty is you could style your hair and walk out the door knowing it was styled right and would look natural. With this product there is ~10 minute dry time, much like hair gel and then I need to run my hands through it to break it up and get the messy but natural style I like. While this isn't terrible, it's why I want some good putty instead of hair gel and so it fails in that respect.

I am growing my hair back out from shaving it off (my daughter lost her hair to chemo/bone marrow transplant, and we shaved our heads together), and while having it shaved was actually surprisingly nice, growing it out has been more challenging. I came across this stuff in the store and gave it a try. It helped give some style and made my hair look a LOT better.

My ONE complaint is that sometimes I have had to apply a bit more than normal, due to having hair that is short and it won't stand up without it, and I've noticed the putty will get flaky. But if you don't put too much on, it works fine.

I ran out, and my sister bought me the "surfer look" one, which is just like this, and I actually like that one more. (Surprisingly it has bad reviews here on Amazon, but I never tried the previous formula that everyone wants back...and I like the current surfer one they have out. Unless the one I tried IS the previous formula, and I didn't realize it...)

But if you're looking something to add style, as long as you don't have to add lots, like I have, you'll be fine. My hair is now long enough that it doesn't need it so much, so it works great. (maybe 2.5 inches long now). But I still prefer the surfer look to this one.

So far after using this and an expensive version from a hair place I am starting to prefer this a lot more. It is easier to put in and works just as good with a cheaper cost. I will admit the more expensive one has fibers in it to make it last longer. But This was does just fine. So while not perfect. It is a really good option. This is the first time styling my hair. So maybe Idk if the other one does a better job at something else. But either way this product just works.

Love this stuff. A little goes a long way, and it doesn't give you that "I gel my hair, bro!" look. It doesn't flake or clump either, all day. I tried many different gels and none of them worked as great as this and didn't flake ever.

I tried to save some money by switching from a similar salon product I use to style my hair. This just doesn't cut it. When you follow the directions and apply the product to your hands, and then hair, it's basically like adding watery hairspray. It doesn't hold very well and it doesn't smell good at all. It's a lose-lose situation for me. I used it a few times and threw it out.

No qualms with this product. It is a stronger hold than expected for the "mess" connotation. If you apply to dryer hair, it will have a more mold-able texture than when applied to more damp hair (it will dry stiffer). No residue, which is the usual problem with similar pastes.

definitely the best paste/putty out there, and trust me, I've gone through a lot of the brands and types out there. very cheap for how great it works, sucks that its hard to get sometimes. feels very smooth and blends out well; doesn't leave any sort of mark or trace of its use, makes your hair look messy naturally.
