I received this very large container of chives (about 2 to 3 oz of chives is probably much more than you think!) earlier in December 2013 and I have not been disappointed with either the quantity or the quality of the product provided.

The chives arrived nicely freeze-dried and have an extremely pleasant, undeniably seductive aroma when first opened that simply screams freshness. The taste of the chives does not disappoint either. They are very delicious: eat just a few chives and you will undoubtedly want some more.

I have previously tried other items available in this product line here on Amazon.com - most notably the freeze-dried onions and mushrooms - and also found these to be quite good which made me more than willing to also give these chives by Mother Earth Products a go and I am certainly glad I did.

Personally, I can detect no discernible difference between these chives and those from Harmony House which I also have purchased in the past.

The big benefit of buying chives online is the fact that you are getting a much bigger bang for your buck when purchasing this comparatively huge container of product for only about $10.00.

Those tiny containers of chives in supermarkets sell for about $4.00 to $5.00 each. In this single container Mother Earth Products is easily providing you with the equivalent of $40.00 to $50.00 of chives at the going supermarket rate.

You would have to be a fool to continue purchasing chives locally at the outrageous prices that are being charged!

The only complaint that I have about this item is a minor one, not related to the product itself.Read more ›

These are great. I can't count how many times I've purchased green onions and/or chives and had them get all slimy in the fridge before I could get to them. Now I have chives available when I need them, no worries. I remember reading a review where the person complained about the volume. This is a large container and you'll have chives for months unless you use them every day in a restaurant or something.

To say that I ♡ ♥ ♡ chives would be a MASSIVE understatement -- actually I'm an ABSOLUTE FIEND for chives!

I'm totally addicted and put chives on or in practically EVERYTHING. Eggs, chicken, fish, homemade ranch dressing, potatoes (when I was still eating them), soups, pasta (and now that I don't eat regular pasta because of the carbs, I put them on Miracle Noodle Shirataki Pasta), chicken salad, tuna salad, egg salad, and so much more. In fact, just today, after coming across the suggestion onine, I had some organic whole-milk cottage cheese (Kalona SuperNatural brand), mixed with a bit of organic sour cream (Kalona SuperNatural brand, again) and some chives and a bit of Himalayan pink salt, and it was DELICIOUS!

So, as an absolute chives fiend, I've tried a few different brands, and I have to say that as a high-volume user, THIS 1 quart tub of Mother Earth Dried Chives seems to be the BEST deal around -- especially getting it through the "Subscribe & Save" program on Amazon.

For a short time, in the beginning, when I first tried (and loved) chives, before joining any bulk warehouse club (like Sam's Club or Costco) I used to buy chives in the small bottles/jars from the grocery store. But because of the high cost, I would have to use it, very sparingly, and was never able to put as many chives as I enjoyed. This is a big container of large, fragrant, flavorful dried chives that will last a long time. The quality is excellent (better than Durkee) with large rings that can be crumbled smaller by hand if you prefer. I've used them in soups, dips, potatoes, eggs and noodles and been pleased with the results. Compared to what the supermarkets charge for a tiny jar (~ $5.00), these are a terrific value.

superior product; the chives are awesome and there's no mislabeling involved. the description was a "quart sized jar" not a quart of chives. try thinking of the contents this way... a quart jar filled with chopped chives weighs-in at about 4 oz; filled with baby powder the contents of the same jar weighs considerably more, and a quart jar-sized hunk of iron weighs even more yet. not to be a smartass, but reading product specifics carefully is a must before buying.

I've used the Name Brand dried chives as others on their reviews have noted and, just like those reviews I've found the name brands lacking in a freshness taste and particularly their off color. I've started using these Mother Earth Dried Chives in recipes I hadn't otherwise thought of - Bear Creek potato soup mix, spaghetti sauce, chicken parmesan and others. I do like using fresh green onions/scallions when I think to buy them in advance for a recipe. But, that's not always convenient especially to drive to a store just for that. I think this product is better than what you have a choice from in traditional grocery store offerings. When I went to Smart & Final to buy a large size like this is, all they had was one stale, two months over the "use by" date name brand container. I didn't check stores like Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Sprouts simply because I don't have the time to run around town just for something like this item and buying it here from Amazon is more convenient and I've never been disappointed with any food product bought here. I've found that reading reviews on Amazon's site really helps make a good decision. And, purchasing this product based a lot on reviews was no exception.
