I already have an Audio-Technica AT-120LP-USB, which is a much high end turntable. It has a counter-weighted tonearm, so it's got a lighter touch and doesn't chew up records as fast as this one. It's also got a moving magnet cartridge for better sound, better fit and finish, and a quartz-timed, direct-drive motor for better long-term durability.

So why 4 stars for this cheapy? Because it does what I expect it to, at a fair price.

It's battery-operated, and runs a long time on a set of 4 rechargeable AAs. Aside from the obvious portability options this gives, it also makes it a safer option to give to a kid, even than a nice condition vintage Fisher-Price one.

It's also a good one to take with you to the thrift shop to sample that record you really want, but has a scratch you can't tell whether it's a "skipper" or not. Each time this works, you've saved a buck. (Or six)

My 3 year old prefers this to my fancy one, and I like that too. If she wrecks this one, despite my best efforts, it's no biggy.

The mechanism is the same one used in the Crosleys, Jensens, and others. It probably is made by the million somewhere in China.

The tonearm weight is on the heavy side, so with continuous replaying of records, they won't last as long as they would with a higher-end 'table. There is a bright side to this though: that stylus will plow out old dirt from the grooves that a higher-end one wouldnt; kind of a ghetto deep clean.

The sound quality is not great, but much clearer than the cassettes you had in the 80s. There's not much bass at all, but it sounds good enough to satisfy in a small room or for background music in a big room. I'm using this now as my bedroom turntable, for example.

I just received my Ion a few days ago and I'm totally in love with it. The battery lasts for about 9 hours on a full charge, the sound quality is great and it has a really nice range, (a tiny bit light on the base but that's mostly to be expected with portable players) and it looks great. It's easy to plug in additional speakers, which enhance the sound quality for a more "high class" listening experience, but you definitely don't have to use them. The player itself can get just as loud as professional speakers easily.
I've been using this thing nonstop the past couple of days listening to my dad's old record collection, and even very old records still sound amazing. Though it is a bit darker than the picture in real life, (I got the turquoise), that's the only negative thing I have to say about it. All in all, this is a great little record player, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive record player that looks cute and has amazing sound :)

Fantastic player, rips to mp3 awesomely and has fantastic battery life. Only thing that I could think to improve is the speakers but they're not horrible. Also be wary it doesn't come with a usb to wall adapter and the usb chord is also the power chord, so if you don't have a spare you may want to order one with the player.

It is what it is. It is not a high fidelity piece of equipment and it doesn't have integrated miniature Bose speakers that can blow you away. But what it IS, is a very convenient, decently sounding turntable, which can even play your 78's (assuming you still have some around) and is compact and portable, has a rechargeable battery and can be hooked to an external speaker / amplifier / headphone and even doubles as a stereo speaker for another gadget. Even if you have your main hi fi turntable, this is a great addition to your tech collection.

Unbelievable sound and quality of the recording to Wav format. I converted it to Mp3 and was amazed on how well it sounded. The software was super easy to use. I am so pleased with my purchase. This was a birthday gift to myself.

I bought this largely to transfer my vinyl to digital media, but we're getting a lot more use out of it than that. We're listening to my dad's old 78's on it (although I think I need to buy a 78 stylus for it) and I'm very impressed with it. It plays well, has decent sound, and plays all our records, including the 45's, the old 78 hard rubber records, as well as my 33.3 LPs. If the batteries are run down, the speed slows down a bit which is especially noticeable with the 33.3's. I like the fact that you can turn off the auto shut-off because some of the records have grooves that go beyond the shutoff limit. The conversion software is very simple and fundamental. It's nowhere nearly as sophisticated as Audacity, for instance, but it's not as complicated, either. The tone arm is very unsophisticated as well, and would not please an audiophile, but for casual listening, it's fine. This is by no means an audiophile's turntable. It's not HiFi, but it is enjoyable. I like that I can even take it out on the patio!

Although this looks rather nice with its retro style, it is in fact quite useless. It has great features, such as the rechargeable battery and is nicely sized to be portable - But all of this good work is destroyed by such terrible sound. It can't get anywhere near its maximum volume without distortion and it sounds extremely tinny. Analogue should be a nice, clean and smooth sound which its depth can be heard - This sounds worse than a 1980's car stereo linked up to broken Alba speakers. Sadly, this is a waste of money.
