Worked perfectly on my vinyl gazebo. I used them to attach multiple strings of small LED Christmas lights on each clip because there is a lot of space. I don't know how it works for rope lights. I do know that it sticks very well, unlike what some reviewers had experienced. It rained hard the day after all of the decorations went up and everything stayed in place. I used 5 different kinds of Command Outdoor clip hangers and all are working fine. Reasons why I think mine hold so well is, my vinyl gazebo is brand new, I cleaned each spot with rubbing alcohol before I applied the strips and, I waited a full day before hanging anything on them. That might seem like extra work, but I thought I would try it after reading that some strips slipped off of vinyl for other people. I also attached strips to acrylic window panes and had the same result.

I attempted to use these to hang some lightweight patio lights under a pavilion where I was not allowed to use nails or staples. even when using several together they couldn't hold the weight of a fraction of the light string. The lights came crashing down, breaking bulbs and drawing blood. The lights I was using were less heavy than rope lights and I thought the 'outdoor' labeling would mean the adhesive was stronger than the standard command hooks'. This was not the case. Most of them fell right off and some of them snapped in half. I'd never buy these again to hang anything.
