Just what I wanted for heating water, plus minimal plastic in contact with the water. The only thing is the lid, is very stiff and tight which can be scary when your hand is that close to steam. Recommend you get some practice opening and closing the lid before you use it so you can get the feel of what it takes to open this lid for pouring, filling, washing.

I really like this tea kettle and use it almost every day. But it was so hard to get it to open when I first got it that my husband had to file off some of the plastic on the back to get the lid open wide enough to put water in it. It's still very stiff, but I manage to use it anyway. Otherwise I would have given it five stars.

We have well water with a lot of lime in it, so we shy away from automatic drip makers and even mechanical pump espresso makers. We use manual cone filters, small Vietnamese "Phin" drippers, and a hand-powered Staresso espresso pump and some French Press pots. For larger brews, we use a kettle on an induction plate, but for one cup or the Staresso (or Phin), doing some water in the microwave is better. This kettle uses better borosillicate (sp?) glass and the glass part never touches the counter. So there is no chance of "thermal shock" or a hot kettle hurting the finish of the counter.

The instructions give a fascinating overview of why there is a dangling thing in the middle and how this protects from super-heated water. They also state not to cook in a microwave for more than five minutes. I suppose this assumes you have a fairly powerful microwave oven.

The whistling is a bit anemic, but on the other hand it doesn't scare our cats. Pours well, cleans up easily. Nice handle. I like it.

This thing works as described, except that the instructions say not to microwave the water within for more than 5 minutes maximum. The problem is that it takes significantly longer than 5 minutes for the water to boil if the unit is filled up to the max fill line. In all fairness, my microwave is very very old; we're talking 20+ years, so certainly at least part of the problem is likely that my microwave is far from high-powered,and is not likely to be functioning as well as when it was newer. With that said,it takes over 7 minutes to boil. I don't know why the 5 minute maximum warning: whether there is BPA that would leach into your water at the 5 minute mark, or some other potentially unsafe reaction, or exceeding 5 minutes could cause the until to melt, explode,or some other kitchen calamity. Since I don't use the water to make tea or coffee--just use it to clean and sanitize surfaces, I don't worry too much about potential chemical contamination of the water from the heat and plastic. I don't worry about melting or exploding either; maybe I should. If anything, it is an incentive to replace my dinosaur of a microwave sooner than later! I bought this because I boil water often, and on occasion I do forget about my pot on the stove. Now I can eliminate the discovery of an empty pan sizzling and burning on my stovetop--the water long since evaporated. (talk about a fire-hazard/potential kitchen calamity) because the audible alert of the whistle remind me to go retrieve the water if over the course of 7 minutes, I have already forgotten that it was there!!!

Great product. We've looked for years to substitute a plastic whistling microwave water boiler that my wife uses every day. Finally we found this one with glass for the water instead of cheap plastic. Nice.

I love Tea but boiling the water on the stove is a pain. This is the answer. We use well water so I just pour hot water into the cup I want to use and then put it in the cooker. And into the microwave it goes for about 3 minutes till you hear the whistle from the pot. I only have a 900 watt micro so it takes a bit longer. Then pour it on your tea bag. I like it for the cleaning which is none compered to how my wife makes me clean the white coating left in the pan, there's no cleaning here for the glass dries clean.

I purchased this because I am always needing hot water and I found it easier to use than pulling out my electric water heating pitcher. It is light and easily stored. It is rather trendy looking if you choose to leave it out. I put as much water in it as I need, start the microwave and in a couple of minutes have boiling water with a whistling teakettle. In order to avoid any chance of breakage, I pull the device out as soon as I can once the whistle starts. It is a good, loud whistle, so it is easy to keep track. I use the water for tea, hot chocolate or for any other needs. It is quick, clean and easy. What a great idea. Reminds me of a tea kettle whistling on a stove.

I do a lot of work related traveling, and I couldn't stand one more cup of tea with what passes for hot water at hotels. An electric kettle would be too large to travel with, so this seemed like a great solution. I have only used it for a week, but so far, it's great.

The whistle isn't super loud, but it's easily audible if you are in the same room as the microwave. The handle stays cool, so it's easy to remove and pour.
