I have bought several different types of knife bars in the past: 1.) Hardwood knife bars, with 2 solid magnet strips exposed, and sunk into the bar - so that they are flush with the hardwood face, running parallel across the face of the bar; 2.) Metal, textured and domed hollow backed knife bars (aluminum), with 2 magnetic strips hidden on the underside, with rigid plastic end caps which would slide onto the hardware and tightly secure it to the wall;
What You Get: (1) Brushed Stainless Steel Knife Bar (18" inch length x 2" inch height x 1.4" inch thickness) and (2) Wall screws and (2) Plastic Wall Anchors for the screws.
PROs:
➔ Design. The feel of this knife bar is heavy duty, it weighs 2 lbs and 4.5 ounces. It has rounded outer edges, to create a sleek, modern look. I really liked that there is a sheath of brushed stainless covering the magnetic strips, so it has a matte look to it, as opposed a high polished look and it is one solid unit. The matte finish of this bar will not show as much fingerprint action as a high polished finish.
Note: I would make sure the place you are mounting this bar has studs - anchoring your screws into just drywall is a recipe for disaster - especially with such a heavy bar, filled with sharp knives.
➔ Stainless steel is a family of alloy steels containing a minimum of 10-1/2% chromium. The chromium, when in contact with oxygen, forms a natural barrier of chromium oxide called a "passive film". Only microns thick ( about one ten thousandth of the thickness of a human hair), this is invisible and the inert film is self repairing - meaning the stainless steel won't corrode, unless exposed to chlorides or chemicals.

I have worked in the restaurant industry for many years and every single kitchen I have ever been in uses magnetic knife bars. They are a great way to store knives out of the way and at the same time, keep them sanitary. Wood knife blocks are horrible for bacteria and even things like creepy crawlies can set up their home down in there.
The ZestyNest 18 inch Magnetic Knife Bar cames in a long box about the same size as the bar and it was wrapped in plastic. A set of screws came with it as well. My husband installed it under one of my counters where it hangs over a shelf. (This was the only place I could put it since I have a back splash all the way around my counters.) It took about 15 minutes to install mainly because I'm very particular about things being perfectly level. We inserted the screws then tried out the bar. The first time it was still a little loose so we turned the screws a quarter turn at a time until the bar was no longer loose.
I proceeded to put my knives on the bar. I noticed some of them didn't stick. I am assuming this is because those particular knives weren't 100% steel. My honing tool will stay, but it has to rest on the top of the bar. My knives that are not perfectly flat and slope towards the blade have a tendency to want to fall forward and not stay up straight.
The magnet is not as strong as the one's in the restaurant (you literally had to pry them off) but for home use, it is perfectly fine. I love that the length allows for all my most used knives plus some.
