I was surprised when the box of 48 rolls of Charmin Ultra Soft toilet paper was delivered that the box was so compact. I was expecting to have to find a spot for it in the garage to store the rolls until we used them. At 17.2 X 16.4 X 12.9 inches, the box was easy to handle and store. We usually buy the Kirklad brand which comes in a package that is 24.1 x 24.1 X 9.2 inches and a few pounds heavier although it's only 30 rolls. There are no markings on the individual packages telling how many sheets to the roll, only some measurements on the outer box. I noticed the difference in the size of the rolls right away. The individual sheets of Charmin are 3.9 x 4 inches compared to the Kirkland at 4.5 x 4 inches. The Charmin contains 17.8 sq ft per roll. The Kirkland has 53.1 sq ft per roll. The 48 roll box of Charmin contains a total of 854.4 square feet. A 30 roll box of Kirkland contains 1,593 square feet. Even when ordering the Kirkand online from Amazon, the savings per square foot is pretty substantial: .0178 per sq ft. for the Kirkland vs. .320 per square foot for the Charmin.
So how do the sheets compare for softness? The Charmin rolls are slightly softer than the Kirkland but weigh less. Both are soft and both are 2-ply. I find that for a family of 3, a roll of the Kirkland lasts about 5 to 6 days whereas the Charmin rolls last 2 to 3 days. Compared to other grocery store brands that we've tried, the Charmin compares favorably because it's softer than most of those and those brands have shrunk in size over the last few years, just like the Charmin. Kirkland is one of the few brands that hasn't shrunk. I will continue to buy the Kirkland because it's a better value, even with the convenience of the home delivery from Amazon.
I've added some photos so you can compare for yourself.

This review is of the MegaRoll package.
I was curious when I had the opportunity to try Charmin Ultra Soft Mega Roll TP. I like that it is unscented.
I have been using the Charmin Ultra Strong TP for years and am very happy with it. I usually get it at my local box store in bulk.
The Mega Roll format is very large and what I like is less frequent changing of the TP roll. It's a small convenience but one I notice. These big rolls may not fit all TP holders, especially in older homes. FYI.
The Ultra Soft is indeed softer than my standard Ultra Strong Charmin. It feels thicker and is very gentle on my skin. On the other hand it pills and tears more easily. Pretty much what one would expect from their respective names!
I like Ultra Soft. It feels a bit nicer than the Ultra Strong. The Mega Rolls are nice too. With it's softness is a more delicate tissue which for a "brisk wiper" like me isn't ideal.
I'll be sticking with my Charmin Ultra Strong TP which *for me* is a better balance of comfort and strength. Of course, what makes the best TP for someone is quite subjective. The best advise is to go buy a roll and give it a try.
