I take A LOT of pictures. I had concerns that with my computer being a few years old already that some day I would try to turn it on and it wouldn't start. So, I bought this to use as a back up. I've had this for about a week and already filled up over 100GB (that's with every picture, file and document that is on my computer). I still have a little over 800GB left! After having it plunged into your computer and it not being in use for a certain amount of time, it will shut off. Which I love because if it's not being used, I would rather it be off. With me taking as many pictures as I do, this may have been the best money I have spent..other than my camera of course! :) It comes with the cord to connect it to your computer as well.

Upon receiving this drive (2 TB version) I immediately connected it to a USB 3.0 port and started transferring 24 GB of folders of pictures and videos to the new drive. My throughput topped out at about 19MB per second. I had hoped for quite a bit faster speeds. So I ran the Crystal Disk Mark 4.1.0 benchmark.. See the attached screen shot of the results.
The sequential read and write speeds look ok on this Toshiba drive I guess. But the random read and write speeds are not what I was hoping for. OTOH my real-world test (19MB per second) gave better results than the benchmark. For my purposes, as an offline backup drive it will meet my needs. The drive appears to be solidly built. I'll have to wait to see how it holds up.
Of course I don't expect this mechanical disk drive to match the speed of the SSD. However, the SSD does show that my rather pedestrian computer is capable of faster speeds than the Toshiba produces.
Editing to add: My second large data transfer was 50.5 GB of pictures in folders. It took 25 minutes 52 seconds, for an average transfer rate of 32 MB per second. So obviously this number can vary quite a bit. Still quite a bit slower than I expected for a USB 3.0 drive.
