so far so good. arrived yesterday. works as described. no noticeable degradation in sound or video quality. i bought this for the new apple tv, and i assume it will work with it. the new apple tv does not have optical sound, and only hdmi. so, this should be a good solution for it. i did a test run with my old apple tv, and was able to extract the audio from the hdmi cable. so, everything works as of now. pretty happy with this purchase so far. also, it look less than 5 mins to set up. good product.

I have an Epson projector in my bedroom with a built in speaker. The sound is low and so tinny. Great picture but I wanted decent sound. I found myself grabbing my older Rokus to hook them up via an audio RCA cable to the projector to get the sound on a Vizio sound bar. However, the Rokus were old and I wanted to use something newer.

I then compromised the sound for upgraded technology and was using the Amazon fire stick with the projector. Since the fire stick is HDMI only, I had no way to change the sound. In comes this device! Out of the box and less than five minutes, I now have my projector hooked up to my fire stick and am using RCA audio cables to my Vizio sound bar, it is awesome! I was trying to figure out for months how to get the sound and this took care of it. It is so simple to set up and for the price, a steal!

Keep in mind you will need an additional HDMI cable. Since this has HDMI in and out, you need the extra one. I did not need length so I ended up buying this, Your Cable Store 1 Foot HDMI 1.4 HDTV Cable Gold Plated 28 AWG, Cat 2.

This has to be one of the easiest set ups and for the features, it is priceless! If you are sick of using your projector built in speakers, I would go with this. It also has an optical output if your sound system has that as a port. I have that but no spare cables right now but have one on order. Hands down one of the best devices out there if you are a protector user!

Does what it says. No fancy extras in the box, just the converter and the power supply. Set up was very quick and only took maybe 3 minutes and then I had nice, high quality audio. It didn't add any perceptible delay or degradation in quality like I had feared it might.The converter itself is made of metal which gives it a good feel and weight. I've only been using it for a couple of weeks but I do not feel like it will fail me anytime soon. Recommended!

Note that you will need two HDMI cables to make it work! One for input and one for output.

This works very well with the Amazon Fire TV if you need RCA outs like I did for your surround sound or home theater. It is an active converter and I notice no loss in sound quality at all.
UPDATE forgot to say I am using the 2015 Fire TV box if that helps. Yaya.

I bought this to separate analog audio out of a Roku 3 to feed a separate zone that requires analog. This device will only output one audio signal, so you have to choose between HDMI pass, SPDIF or analog.

Even in HDMI pass mode the audio cuts out in silent portions of broadcasts - making them virtually unlistenable. This may be an issue with the ROKU 3, but this device was of no use to me as a result.

The HDMI input on my 8 year old Sony Bravia TV doesn't transmit the sound from any HDMI device I own (DVD player, Playstation, or Chromecast, etc). I got this specifically for getting Google Chromecast sound into my home theater receiver, as the Chromecast has no analog output. If you use this for a Chromecast, Amazon TV Firestick, Roku stick, etc. you plug the device directly into the HDMI input of the Tendak, and use a standard HDMI cable between the output of the Tendak and the HDMI input of the TV for video pass through. The unit came with a small 5V power supply (not shown in product images). The video quality appears to be unaffected by the unit. Seems to work well on the RCA outputs, but I haven't tried the TOSLINK output. Sound quality doesn't seem to be fantastic, but that might just be the fault of my Chromecast. I haven't experimented with any other devices I own, as I can plug them straight into my receiver directly. If the sound were superior in my setup, I'd have given this unit a 5star.

TENDAK and APPLE TV 4
I Purchased this product to be used with my new APPLE TV 4. Apple has eliminated the
Optical TOSLINK SPDIF feature in their new design. The Tendak component provides an HDMI pass-through and an 'Optical out' port so I can continue using my old favorite Sony receiver that has no HDMI.

Installation took less than five minutes. Be prepared with a short, flexible HDMI cable not supplied with the Apple TV 4. The system worked fine, with great sound from my receiver through the Tendak optical port!

OUTSTANDING TECHNICAL SUPPORT
The next morning there was a problem. The Tendak unit would not work until power supply was unplugged and replugged. I emailed Tendak in China (service@tendak.com) Sunday morning and received a kind reply at 7:00 PM with the solution.

SOLUTION
Apple TV 4: Settings >Devices > Control TVs and Receivers, turned to "OFF". This solved the problem! One of the best Customer Support experiences I've experienced
