This is a plastic bar with two magnetic strips integrated into its body. The plastic has a textured finish and the magnet has stainless steel accent pieces that give the knife holder a sleek appearance. There are two mounting holes on either end with included mounting hardware. I didn't know how well it would hold but in my video I shake it around with a knife in place and it held pretty well. The magnetic surface is 12 inches. I plan on mounting mine inside a cupboard door to keep extra knives that do not rest in my knife block out of the way. I purchased this magnetic knife holder to keep the knives away from my baby who has figured out how to bypass the safety latches on our kitchen drawers. This is an attractive knife holder. It is easy to install, and comes with the screws you need.

The magnets are plenty strong enough to hold even my large chef's knives, and there is plenty of room for five or six large knives, or even more smaller ones.

I received a sample of this product to evaluate and review.

I like to cook, and I cook a lot. What that means is that I do have a ridiculous amount of cooking utensils. I don't think that's a bad thing, but! I may have a tendency to by way more than when person should. There's a reason that I do it, and I'm going to get to that.

Ihave currently three different sets of knives. And every single set has a wooden block to hold them in. When those knives get dull, I have to move on to another set. Especially since I do use my knives a whole lot more than the average person does. If I buy a set of knives that are serrated, they are never the same once you sharpen them. I'd just buy another set, hence the three sets, but these knives are not sure rated. & I absolutely refuse to put them into the wooden blocks. I know that people say storing your knives in the wooden blocks will keep them safe and help them to not lose their dullness, but I disagree a million percent. I do not want to put my new set of knives that were ridiculously expensive into a wooden block that I feel is going to keep them dull or make them getting dull faster than what would normally happen.

Having a magnetic strip to put my new knives on makes me so ridiculously happy. I am completely confident in the fact that this strip will hold my knives, & I don't have to worry about them falling and stabbing me. The magnetic strips are very strong, and this was super easy to install. You have two screws or you have the option of using a glued backing. I love it, I think that it is magnificent and all that is good and great when it comes to me having happy knives.

I am now planning on donating my other sets of knives that I will never use again to the battered women shelter, and I have no regrets.Read more ›

You know those "team-building" exercises where you are asked to fall backwards and trust your co-workers to catch you before you bounce off the concrete? If you have no trouble doing that, then you won't agonize over this product like I did. I couldn't and I had to really talk myself into using this knife holder.

The CONCEPT is brilliant. I have a five-piece set of knives (chopper, chef's knife, serrated knife, and two paring knives) that's a joy to own and use. They're heavy and sharp and make cooking so much easier. I like the revolving holder they came in, but it takes up counter space and that's something I don't have a lot of. So I was motivated to try this, but the idea of sharp knives suspended in air terrified me.

It comes with two wall screws and moly-bolts, so even if you can't attach the holder to wall studs, it's still secure. And so are the knives, as I found out when I got up the nerve to hang them. This magnet is a doozy and it does the job. My knives (stainless steel) stick to it and don't become dislodged even if I brush up against them. The holder itself is attractive in a modern, minimalist fashion and your knives are beautifully displayed and handy when you need them. And all without sacrificing one square inch of precious counter space.

**** I was given a free sample of this product in exchange for an honest review.**** If you have your knives in a drawer (unless you have a sheath for each one, which is unlikely) you're going to get sliced sooner or later. Knife "blocks" are handy, but you're giving up counter space. This keeps your knives where you can get to them and it's a safe method of storage. I am now a believer.

PS It's intended (and sold) to hold knives and that's what it does. The magnet holds knives because they have a flat surface. Other kitchen tools (peelers, spatulas, etc) won't stay on.
