That was my husband's comment when I switched out our regular Kirkland toilet paper for this Charmin Ultra Strong. There was quite a noticeable difference seeing the roll on the toilet paper roll dispenser in the bathroom. Not only are these shorter, but the double rolls are about half of what we get on our usual brand. But we're they stronger? They look a little thinner than the Kirkland but seemed about as strong. The Kirkland was softer. These rolls lasted about 2 to 3 days for 3 people in our family. The Kirkland lasts 5 - 6 days. I don't like having to change rolls all the time so the Kirkland is more convenient.
How do they measure up? At today's prices on Amazon:
Charmin 154 sheets per roll, 3.92 x 4 inches each or 16.75 sq ft per roll
48 rolls = 804 sq ft total costs $27.40 with Prime shipping
.0340 per sq foot
Kirkland 425 sheets per roll, 4.5 x 4 inches each or 53.1 sq. feet per roll
30 rolls = 1593 sq ft total costs $28.40 with free shipping
.0178 per sq foot
What does "double roll" really mean? I think I will stick with the Kirkland brand. I don't like throwing money down the toilet.

This review may sound like I’m saying some bad things about this product, but actually, I’m really just doing my best to point out some differences between products. And because words used to describe TP tend to make statements that make it difficult to accurately compare products, I’m using the photos in this review to hopefully make my explanations clearer. In all four photos below, the product appearing on the left is the product being reviewed, and the product on the right is our usual Charmin product, Ultra soft jumbo roll Charmin.
I expected when this product showed up at my door, there would be this huge box, because 48 rolls is a lot of toilet paper. But the box containing 48 rolls was quite small. I was thinking maybe even they only sent 24, or maybe even only 16 rolls, but no, the box has 48 rolls in it. That’s made possible by the small size of the rolls. As compared to the Jumbo rolls of Charmin (again, on the right in all four photos), the double rolls are smaller in diameter, smaller in height, and smaller in sheet size. They are double-ply, so they are strong, as the packaging suggests, but the extra soft Charmin is also double-ply, and besides being was softer than this product, I could tell no appreciable difference in strength, either by pulling laterally or bulling the sheet over a chair finial. That is to say, this product is more economical and space saving than the jumbo, ultra-soft rolls. As far as usage goes, it’s more than adequate size wise, to where I might even say I prefer the smaller size, just because I don’t particularly need a wider sheet to, you know, get clean.
Other than the lack of softness compared to the ultra-soft product, there is little to distinguish this product from its sibling product, other than its small size.Read more ›

Charmin's Double-Roll Ultra Strong Toilet Paper is fairly soft, it is fairly strong, but if this is a double-roll, I can't imagine wasting my money on a traditionally sized roll. To test this I set out these rolls in our main bathroom and tracked how often we replaced rolls versus the other brand we've been getting for years. Everyone told me that they needed to replace rolls more often and asked why I had gotten a smaller roll since this didn't seem softer or stronger than what we normally get.
The reason is that this "double roll" is smaller than what we normally get. Our normal brand has 220 sheets per roll but the Charmin rolls do not give sheet count information so I'll add some photos showing the size difference. I also measure the diameter across the side -- Charmin = 10.5 cm but regularly used brand = 11.8 cm; the diameter of the cardboard core is the same at 4 cm. In effect you are getting less product for slightly more money than I normally spend toilet paper. To be blunt, I wouldn't unless I simply couldn't find my regular brand and we had a crisis of needing toilet paper.
