This projector is not what I expected, but in a GOOD way!

Most projectors with a traditional lamp offer brightness of 2000-3000 lumens. This Casio is 2700 lumens. But it doesn't have a traditional lamp. It uses LEDs and a laser light source. I've never even heard of using lasers in a projector before this. Watching movies, it looks just like any other high quality projector and you wouldn't know that it uses LED & Laser technology. Prior to getting the Casio, I had an Epson and a 3M projector. After a year or so of use, the projector bulbs/lamps would burn out and needed to be replaced. Lamp replacements are fairly normal for projectors. But the lamps cost about $150 dollars each, sometimes as much as $300 depending on the brand. Sometimes buying a new projector is more economical than replacing the lamp. I've often wondered how one light bulb can cost that much! It seems like a huge waste to use "throw away projectors." Similarly there are a lot of inkjet printers where buying a new printer with ink is cheaper than replacing just one ink cartridge.

Back to the Casio. The light output is great. I can see everything clearly even during the day with the window blinds open. The resolution is not full HD, it's 1024x768. At this resolution, it's okay for presentations. I would have preferred 1920x1080 (full HD), but full HD projectors are out of my price range when considering the cost of replacement lamps. For an XGA resolution projector, it does cost more than other XGA projectors with similar specs. Considering that the LED/laser light source should never burn out, it works out to be a better deal than traditional projectors that need a lamp replacement every 1 or 2 years. Casio claims the LED/laser light source has a 20,000 hour life.

We bought this to be donated to a school in the Philippines. The main reason for the decision is that it doesn't use bulbs that needs replacement (crossing my fingers) and the 2700 lumens. Since it is for a school, HD is not necessary. The projector was bright enough during the day and at night even with lights on. For school purposes, this would do the job and hopefully it will last long in a foreign country where replacement bulbs are not affordable. On the negative side, this has no speaker, zoom is really short, no automatic keystone adjustment, keystone adjustment in only on the remote and only for up and down (no right and left), and it is kind of pricey. But even with all these cons, the lampfree is just hard to ignore plus these negatives doesn't mean the projector cannot be used ~ it will do the job. Hopefully this will last long because we are planning to buy 2 more.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Having had loads of A.V. experience as a teenager,I remembered those incredibly bulky, difficult to operate, projectors from the stone age with little affection. I was immediately attracted to the new Casio line of Eco-Friendly laser lit digital projectors. Especially the maintenance free feature. The unit is not one of those "will fit in your briefcase" mini projectors, but it is still quite small and relatively lightweight. Most of my own presentation needs take place in smaller offices and home rooms, but I can see how it would work well in educational settings. It is not inexpensive, but it is built well, and the images projected from both my laptop and my digital camera via HDMI cables (not included) were sharp and very bright. I understand that the line includes more elaborate models with higher lumens, but for my uses this seemed an excellent value. The included remote (complete with batteries!) did an admirable job with adjusting both the image keystoning and the digital zoom is incredibly effective. The manual zoom is barely useable in the short distances I need, but the manual focus is effective. My only complaint is with the lack of a range of connections on the back panel. Only HDMI and VGA ports are provided. A mini USB port is there but not mentioned in the online owner's manual and marked system. I did not use the VGA/serial cable which is supplied. Overall, this is an very effective digital projectors with bright colors and sharp text in a moderate to small presentation room. It worked very well in daylight against an off-white wall with skylights above, which is probably a torture test for most digital projectors. If Casio is right, the fact that the light bulb will never need replacing is a huge plus for me, as I remember that nasty job from my youth.Read more ›

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I’m going to put it all out there up front: This projector exceeded my highest expectations. While my previous experience with projectors has been almost entirely in an office environment, this is the first time that I’ve taken one home and put it through the rigors of a home-environment (4 kids, cat, dog, etc). So far this has outperformed anything else I’ve ever used.

This is simply beautiful when handling video. I’ve connected it to 3 laptops and a desktop and its been flawless every time. If there is any delay at all, it’s a fraction of a second from the laptop to the projection, and the colors are crisp and clear. I’m cheating and projecting the images onto a painted wall vice any sort of screen, but the colors are still amazing (although brightly lit scenes really show off the capabilities here).

It doesn’t come with much in the way of a manual, but it really didn’t need one. The only thing that disappointed me about this was that there was no speaker at all on the unit – so when first connecting to the HDMI on my laptop – I had to scramble for a set of external speakers to test it out. You’re probably going to want to hook this to something with amplification anyway if you’re projecting a movie, so it’s not a show stopper, but for the first night, when setting it up – I expected to be able to just plug in the laptop and instantly watch a movie.

Much has been made of the 2700 lumens, and the picture really is bright and works well inside on a white screen, but when outside, it really needs to be dark when you’re projecting a movie.

In our back yard, I place this projector about 25 feet away from the back wall and the picture projected is roughly 9 feet tall by 17 feet wide.
