I'm a woman with lots of kids so stress incontenence is a fact of life. I generally use pads or just change frequently to stay fresh. I've brought it up with my doctor but wasn't thrilled with the surgical option offered. This poise device seemed like a good option to try before resorting to surgery.

Use:

It's simple enough to use. If you're used to tampons it's no big deal. If you've used a menstrual cup then you've got an even better idea of what to expect. The applicator is just like a tampon but larger. The instructions say to begin with size one and work your way up to size three if the smaller sizes don't fit. To be frank, they're not comfortable to insert. I'd go so far as to say it's mildly painful when you push the device out of the applicator. I'm a woman in her very early 30's so I can only assume it would even more uncomfortable for women past menopause.

What I find strange is that the device is a square and yet there is no way to know, with a smooth round applicator, which way you're inserting it. Will it be seated squarely? Will it be seated as a diamond and pinch you? Who knows until you have it in.

Wearing:

They work for me. I don't leak. That said, they're noticeable and uncomfortable when standing or laying down and borderline painful when seated, especially on a hard surface. At least for me it's not like a tampon or menstrual cup where it's noticeable for a few minutes then you forget about it. I could feel it and was bothered by it whole time (I took it out after about four hours since I couldn't stand it anymore).

Removal:

The devices come folded somewhat to fit in the applicator. It springs open once pushed out of the applicator. Removing it means just pulling on the string.

Liz, thank you so much for giving Poise Impressa Bladder Supports a try and for providing us with your feedback. We're so happy to hear they worked well to prevent leaks from happening for you! While we're disappointed to learn you experienced some discomfort, mild discomfort may occur for some women when first using the product. Any discomfort should be temporary and should go away within the first 14 days of use. If discomfort continues after the first 14 days, please discontinue using the bladder supports and consult your health care provider. Please note that Poise Impressa Bladder Supports are made to be used one time only. Once it is removed, discard into a waste receptable - do not flush the bladder support. If you have further questions, please visit our website at www.impressa.com.

WHAT AN AMAZING NEW PRODUCT!!!!
i AM TRULY, TRULY IMPRESSED.
The first and most important qualifier that I have is to go no further in considering this item if your incontinence issue is the type that is not addressed by use of this product. For edification let me explain.
If you have stress incontinence (you leak when you laugh, cough, exercise) then proceed.
If you leak when you get up in the morning and your bladder is full and you leak quite a bit while walking to the bathroom then this is NOT stress incontinence. That is URGE incontinence. This product is NOT for you.
Clearing all of that up then proceed to read about this phenomenal item.
If you agree now that you have stress incontinence then you will benefit from this product because this product actually gives support to your bladder and positions it correctly.
What you get in the package is two supports in each of sizes 1, 2 and 3. The difference between these three is the size. Size 1 being the smallest.
When you open the package you see a plastic tube with a string hanging at the far end of the tube (for easy removal).
Start with the size one tube and apply a little bit of Vaseline to the insertion end, then insert it into your vagina just as you would a tampon.
I proceeded very, very slowly. For no other reason than I wanted to be sure of correct placement and didn't want to be rough on those tissues than hadn't "seen" a tampon for some time.
You will be able to "feel" when you have it in the correct position because you can sense that it doesn't want to go further without perhaps being uncomfortable. Trust your body to tell you what is right. It probably IS time to stop.
Then gently, very gently and slowly slide the applicator out.

Poise Impressa Bladder Supports are a disposable soft and flexible pessary, that's fitted at home by the user, inserted like a tampon, and worn for just 8 hours at a time. Bottom line - they work. And today's woman may just be ready for such an over-the-counter solution to bladder leakage.

The bladder support comes with complete directions for fitting and use, and the supports are - for an at-home device - remarkably comfortable and effective. They will not take the place of an office-fitted pessary, which can be left in place for extended periods of time without any sensation at all, if it is a truly perfect fit. A pessary fits between a series of anatomical landmarks to prevent bladder leakage, as well as treat other symptoms not discussed in the Poise Impressa literature. The Poise Impressa solely focuses on bladder leakage, and does it quite well, depending on the anatomy of the wearer (as a reviewer of the product, I'm certainly not qualified to comment on the limitations of the product as related to conditions outside its stated use).

The bladder support is inserted like a tampon, something 99.9% of women are familiar with. My one recommendation would be to lean over forward (very far forward) during insertion to allow as much space as possible for the bladder support to expand between the aforementioned anatomical landmarks if the first few uses are less than successful. The applicator is removed, and the support expands to put gentle pressure on the structures to allow them to function more normally; no more urinating while coughing, laughing, sneezing, etc.

This is an impressive product, and will bring blessed relief to dignified women who are closet tinklers. Follow all cautions on the product. Renew your acquaintance with your GYN if you have any problems. Allow your body to adjust. Lubricate. And enjoy your freedom.
